Best awkward compliment you've gotten

This one time I jumped onstage to jam on guitar with a band at a high school dance I was attending. I only played a couple tunes, but we RIPPED IT UP!!! Pretty sure that crowd had never heard anything like it before.

Afterwards, this girl (who had a big crush on me) comes up to me and says 'gee Marty, that was some interesting music'.

Then, she left with MY DAD.

Were they ready for that kind of music?

At least one guy noticed your playing and called his relative, advising him to adopt your style. The rest is history.

I completely failed to give a compliment once and I would love to apologize to this guy if he's out there, Dace Robie of the Max Allen Band, a hell of a player. I used to love watching the MAB whenever they came through town. I went through a couple years of excessive drinking and one particular night I was watching these guys and after the gig I wanted to say something like "I'm not really familiar with Ibanez instruments but that bass sounds really good!" but what came out of my mouth was "Hey that bass sounds pretty good for an Ibanez!" and I could tell that I had upset him. He's a really great player and I've always felt terrible about that one. FWIW, I was hit by instant karma on the way home when I crashed my bike in the Family Video parking lot.

You're still alive to tell that story, so congrats on surviving what could have been a lethal inebriated driving situation. It sounds like you've learned not to do that.
