Best Bass Intro!

3.Keep The Faith - Bon Jovi (Though Alec John Such is
credited with that on the Keep the Faith album,I hear
consistent rumours that Hugh McDonald plays it, and indeed,
composed it as he apparently claims)

Hugh McDonald did practically most of Bon Jovi's studio recordings due to Alecs playing 'inconsistancies'. Its been mentioned in places that we also wrote the Living on a Prayer riff to. I saw the MTV An Audience with Bonjovi video, and Alec played a good show....but I assume he was more sobber on that night. I think it is a huge shame that Mcdonald doesn't get his full credit, even now when he replaced Alec.

My Girl - The Temptations

Jamerson. What else can you say?

Finally! I was wondering how many pages I'd have to wade through before finding this! My first bass teacher showed me this line as a blueprint for writing the PERFECT supporting harmony, and it really is. Its even cooler when you think that Jamerson supposedly recorded this on his back, dead drunk after hearing the melody ONCE!

A Little song by the name of FOR WHOM THE BELL TOLLS.
One of the best bands ever:metallica
One of the best bassists:cliff burton
One of the best songs ever:for whom the beel tolls.
Whats not to Like!?

Actually the song gets really boring after the intro is over. I used to cover it constantly and was always looking for ways to spice it up. Doing it at double tempo and playing the 2nd guitar harmony on the bass helps (actually the way Cliff played it live). Just listening to it on a CD is pointless past the first minute.

Hmm, here's mine.

Cries on the Wind - Anathema (Duncan Patterson)
Book of Thel - Bruce Dickinson (Eddie Casillas)
Arsis (as an intro to Muttersprashe) - Gordian Knot (Sean Malone)
Wills Disolve - Isis (Jeff Caxide)
My friend of Misery - Metallica (Jason Newsted)
Lost - Neurosis (Dave Edwardson)
The Lotus Eaters - Nevermore (Jim Sheppard)
Strip the Soul - Porcupine Tree (Collin Edwin)
Skotoseme - Diamanda Galas (John Paul Jones)

... strange list, now that I look at it. :bassist:

That song is a very easy one to spice up! And a very good one, I totally agree. I think playing it up tempo is good, however I like what cliff did with the intro. During the intro he would burst into small but wicked awsome shredder solo's using the same shape as the intro. I have seen this several times, but the best place to look is Cliff em' All (man I wish i owned that) and the very beginning of the SD show on Binge & Purge. This alone puts the intro above all others in my books. I look at it as the simplest line can turn into the most awsome line ever, all it needs is some paprika! Add a harmony to it, chuck random fast fills in it, add extra notes (such as triplets, I LOVE TRIPLETS! they make the line sound more complicated, make me look good, and are easy as pie!) or just speeding it up!

One last intro, Go Skate, by Suicidal Tendencies, I love the slap! Rob is awsome.

All good picks. Anything I say would just be repeating... Oh wait... The Who's "Who are you?" Has some bass to it... I like the high hat part too. (I'm a sucker for a good high hat part... like "Smoke On The Water")

*EDIT* It's not really an intro, but I think it is one of my favorite bass parts. Led Zeppelin's "The Lemon Song" is great. I love how they cut everything except for the bass and the voice.

The two that always stick out in my mind are Muse "Hysteria" and Spacehog "In the Meantime."

I love that Muse song. I got to play Hysteria with my band at a gig yesterday. Our guitarist didn't know the solo and our drummer didn't know all the words. Plus, we were having PA troubles and the mics kept randomly cutting out. And we kept losing the time, but other than that we played it rather well, too bad there were only like five people there two hear it. haha.
