I have one of these and it's pretty good, but it ain't cheap anymore. Back when I got mine I think I paid $50 or $60. A year ago I asked if I could just get a new tail for it since mine got lost, and he wanted $25 for it. $25? I'll get a piece of raw leather and stick velcro on it myself!

Well, he has to pay for that expensive (????) model!

I just picked up a Levys Strap at GC for $40 that is similar to the Neotech Mega Strap, its amazing how much it makes a difference. I have a bad lower back and it really did the trick with my heavier basses. Invalid Link Removed

Have one that I use on my 10.5lb fretless and it doesn't even feel like it's there.

I also used to have a Levy's leather strap that seemed like it was 5 inches wide or better. I called it the Beaver Tail. I wish I still had it!

I use the 4" Italia as well .. I think it matters less which 4 " you use, than that the inner side is suede so that the bass tends to move less and balance better ... I have some pretty serious shoulder issues, but dont play long sets as you do, but the suede lined 4" has solved the problem completely, and I also see in your video's that we wear the bass about the exact same way ... now if I could only play the same as you do

i have rods fused to my spine, so i feel for you... i saw some strap that looked almost like suspenders that would totally do the trick for you but i cant for the life of me remember where i saw it/what there called

Mono GS1 Betty strap is pretty comfortable.

This. Amazing strap. Nice thick padding, very comfortable feel. Nice and wide. Suede inner side helps prevent slippage. My 10.5 lb P bass feels like a feather weight on my shoulder with the GS1.

unfortunately, these have a clip style button on them that probably won't hold a heavy bass.

But, for a similar style strap, buy a standard strap that creates a loop to "gather" the unused portion, then put your head through that loop. It works. It also positions the bass so that the headstock is closer to you, which I love. I've always hated standing with a bass, because standard straps hang the bass way out to the left. But doing this has been literally a game changer for me regarding standing with a bass.

I'm an Alembic owner, and also own several other basses that are relatively heavy (an '81 Gibson Victory, a '77 Gibson RD Artist, and a
'73 Fender Jazz Bass). The only strap that works for me is a Moody. They cost a bit, but they're worth every penny IMHO.

+100 to all the Moodys Strap recommendations. I own Levys & Italia, but nothing feels like Moodys. I wear my bass in about the same place you described & never have a problem. Moodys, a little pricey but worth it.

You know, I have an Italia strap too (I think mine is 5"), and it's a good strap, but it's very heavy and stiff. I've tried to break it in so it isn't as stiff, and I improved it a little, but it just doesn't seem to have any give at all. Maybe I'm just used to the padding on my Levy's strap, though. If this was a little more cushiony maybe I'd dig it more.

I have had very good results with Levy's straps. I am not sure which model numbers they are, but these are guitar straps about 3 inches wide. My basses are all about 9 Lbs or so. I have a 4" leather strap for a fretless that weighs about 11 Lbs, but I seldom play that bass for more than a few songs.

A long time ago I tried a strap that goes over both shoulders and HATED it. The bass was in the wrong position altogether.

I also got great use out of some 4" wide woven straps. these were comfortable and breathable too, but after about 15 years, they stretched out pretty badly which got uncomfortable on the shoulder.

Not cheap now, but bought several when they were cheaper. They are by far the best strap I've ever used. You can make a new tail easily. I prefer the softer version of these straps.

I had a custom leather strap made, width and length just how I like, padded and personalized for not much more than off the rack top-end straps. Been using it since 1977. Do it once, do it right.
