My Talkbass experience has kept me from spending money on things I don't need. So it really is a very good purchase.

Two of the all-time best pieces of gear I have ever bought are the Alembic F-1X preamp and SF-2 Superfilter. The F-1X is without a doubt the best sounding preamp I have ever used (and I've tried a lot). I have been using it consistently without even a hiccup since 1998. The SF-2 is just incredible. The combination of these two units working together gives me flexibility and tone that almost always gets compliments. I don't think I could ever top these two pieces of gear

It would have to be the Conklin GT7. Got it used but in immaculate condition with case for around $400. It sounds amazing, plays beautifully, and looks cool too. And seven strings means I don't have to run out and buy a Chapman Stick

Hi guys, I was wondering what is the best bass related purchase you ever made? It could be a bass, an amp, a pedal, whatever.

For myself, I was thinking the other day that the best bass related thing I ever bought was Ed Friedland's books, starting with Building Walking Bass Lines. They taught me a heckuva lot. Ed really opened up the world of bass to me in his books. I am not a "natural" musician, I had to work at it (I still do) and his books really showed me the way.

In terms of impact per dollar spent, this little guy has to win a prize!
I cant remember what it's called or who I bought it from, but it was a guy here on TB. Absolutely the best money I ever spent on bass stuff! Simple enough design; A steel bar with holes drilled and beveled for the strings to slide through, then the string tension holds it onto the bridge.
This little steel bar adds just enough weight to help balance the Casady (with some help from Hipshot ultralight tuners) perfectly.
BUT MOST OF ALL it adds enough heft to the crappy 3 point bridge, to really open up the tone of this instrument. The bass itself is a great value and very well built, then this little mod makes it even more responsive.

For me, it's the Tascam MP-BT1 mp3 Bass Trainer. Great tool for learning songs. Download mp3's into it, then you can slow 'em down, loop sections, change the key, etc. Also has a tuner and metronome, and can be used as just a headphone amp.

Sonic Turbo Tuner.... so far beyond anything else on the market. A very small tuner with true bypass, amazing tracking even of the open B, and strobe accuracy.

+1 Love my Turbo Tuner! Made in the USA, excellent customer service. I ordered one, for my brother, for his birthday last week. They had it from California to Pennsylvania in 2 days. Free shipping too if I'm not mistaken.

Also gotta share some love for thhe Sansamp BDDI! It's just so freakin' useful.

Outside of bass guitar, Id say my Maudio Venom synth. Diff most excellent for edgey synth bass voices and bass organs. Got it shortly after they where released and from trading in other gear I wasnt useing.

My Hipshot de-tuner is by far the most useful purchase I've made. Second has to go to my Zoom H2n, recording practices has helped my band hear our weaknesses and greatly improve.

TC Electronics Staccato 51 (450 watts) with 2X10 cab. It's a tone monster, built in compressor, built-in tuner, 3 presets. It's a joy to find tones you've been chasing and it really complements my Geddy.
