I will explain not that my opinion matters..I am also one who 100% agrees that as much as I have tried to love the Stingray bass, I personally think they suck..I have tried over years of playing to like them, even purchased 4-5. All I get is this clanky, clackity and annoying sound out of it using numerous amps. No matter what I did with set-up, it had too much clank against the board. I did everything to tame it, even cut lows and mids and it just didn't do it for me. The only way it cut through a mix is when I boosted the lows and even then it sounded distorted with no definition. All of this being said, I still do very much want to try a Pre-Ernie Stingray since many of my influences used them. Again, my opinion and personal experience
Wrong question, you should ask what is the worst bass, than again it could be good firewood, now I know what you mean by a trole thread

I think what you experienced is how you play combined with how the Rays you played/owned were set up. I am not attacking your technique and please don't take it that way. I don't really love Stingrays, much, after owning two. I do miss the HH I had. I always thought they played like super P basses, or G&Ls. I never had any clack even with low action, but I have a light touch with the plucking hand.
Light Touch With the Plucking Hand was the name of my high school band, incidentally...
Oh I do. I'm just not delusional like many of you. Read my other posts explaining why I gave my answer. I assure you I get out a lot more than you, old man. I'm not saying they ARE the best, but most people as a whole INCLUDING non bass playing musicians/music fans will say they are.

You are probably right...I also had a very hard time adjusting to a single pickup so close to the bridge, it felt like I had to pluck even harder to cut through, which may be the reason. I never had played the HH model but I would guarantee it would be a better fit in all areas, as I am sure that bass has some serious thunder.
Any one that your wife will tolerate.
