I'm just going to point out that my original post was that I was going to search for "best Class-D amp for metal," which felt kind of humorous, because that is such a widely, openly derided premise for a thread.
Since you are curious (or maybe just interested in taking a leadership role in my thread,) I am using a Dr. Bass 2460 cab loaded with a pair of those Genz Benz 12" drivers that Avatar has been selling off. Perhaps there are some other Class-D amps that you have never used that you would like to recommend for use in conjunction with that?
I guess that depends on the definition of growl. When you look it up in the dictionary there is a picture of an 800RB
The TH is more wooly IMO and not quite as tight or defined as GK. Countless metal records were cut with GK.
But it all really depends on what the OP is looking for.
Tone Hammer is nice but IMO too smooth. It was probably designed with more of the sweet standard/classic tone range in mind. It can surely get the job done especially with the help of other tools (various outboard preamp pedals out there) but would not be my go-to.
What cabs/OD do you use?
Also: I just checked out your band and you guys sound rad. Awesome stuff.

Hi, Mantis Tobaggan here, bass player for Destructonomicon. Personally, i like a clean bass tone in metal. It goes well with distorted guitars.

Dude, that is some RAD stuff. I started playing bass guitar in 1987, right at the sweet spot of the crossover era.
I'm the same way. I have always gotten my growl by digging in. I have never been an effect dude.
Have 3 or more distortion pedals connected in series and directly into the PA system.
If I had that cab I'd go with the GK MBF 800 as mentioned before. Those things can be clean as a whistle or dirty as hell. You can even get grinding/clanky sound if that's what you like. It won't fit in a gig bag put its pretty small and super light.
No other additives needed
There ya go you only got 200 watts and not the boost which plays a big part. Boost baby!
I thought the Boost channel on my MB800 sounded like hot garbage. Traded it for the Tonehammer and haven't looked back.
