Best Delay Pedal

I very much enjoy the mini TC flashback for it's simplicity, small footprint, and extended flexibility with toneprints. There are a lot of great recommendations here and I think it will ultimately come down to your needs and budget.

I would love to indulge in a high quality delay unit, but can't justify it now/haven't started my neoclassical ambient solo project yet
 
For me - EchoPuss. It's got plenty of tweakabilty without being too overbearing, sounds great, and has a tone knob so you can get dark or bright repeats. Beats the heck out of my buddy's Carbon Copy if you ask me.

After that, I also like my DOD FX90 for simplicity. Still sounds great, and just plain works.

Still no bass demo of the EHX Canyon I mentioned in an earlier post in this topic, but I did find, in an my opinion, better demonstration of it's capabilities, than the official demo.

I was not expecting some many replies... You guys at talk bass are great!! I found a 2nd hand moog delay pedal.. It will cost £300. I am gonna use it with my synth bass. I dont wanna sound like anyone else so I am going to real experiment and see what I can do

Do you mess with cv? Thats where the moog really shines. Try to get an lfo at the very least.

I dont understand CV!! What exactly does it do and how do you use it?

CV stands for control voltage, which was sort of the analog version of MIDI for modular synthesizers. It's still used on most analog synths, even new ones, which also have midi. The moogerfooger you're looking at has multiple CV inputs to control each parameter. Think of it like an automatic hand to turn the knobs (they don't actually turn, it's electronic) , but which can do so much more than you can physically. Download the manual for the 104z, which has everything you need to know.

An LFO is a low frequency control oscillator, which is used to "turn the knobs" electronically, and is the most common source of CV. You can use different waves, like a sine or square wave, and change the speed of how the CV turns the knob back and forth. "Sample and hold" is another type of wave which is random, so you get random settings constantly changing a parameter like delay time or feedback or the mix between the delayed signal and the source signal.

Or you can use white noise to modulate a parameter, which can get crazy effects. Use noise to modulate delay time? It doesn't make sense but you can do it. And if you get a Cv mixer you can mix say noise and sine wave. The possibilities are endless, which makes the MF so great. You can even use a midi to CV converter to sequence it.

My main setup is to use a sample and hold at low speed (meaning the random changes happen slowly) to modulate the delay time. You get a really unique chorus effect that doesn't sound like the chorus pedals you usually hear. As if the analog delay doesn't sound analog enough, the random modulations make it sound even more analog, like a wobbly tape delay.
