I recently purchased the Alesis GuitarLink Wireless, so I thought I'd provide a report on my experiences so far.

I haven't used it in a performance yet, but I've used it at home plus in a rehearsal held in a performing venue. The first time I used it, I experienced a very noticeable hiss. I switched back to the cable. A few days later, I thought about the possibility that the hiss was related to the channel that I was using, so I forced a resync, and I had no hiss.

Later, I noticed that my pedal was producing a similar (but lower volume, I think) hiss under certain circumstances. So that initial hiss may not have even been from the wireless.

At home, I noticed I started getting noticeable dropouts when I walked from my office (where I rehearse) to the living room, about 20-30 feet away.

During the venue rehearsal last night, I couldn't travel very far because my IEM is wired, but I did notice one dropout.

So, that's my report!

I have decided on the Shure GLX-D14 wireless system. i don't use pedals and this system will look great on top of my SVT. i am also making a bracket out of sheet metal to mount my tuner at a 45 degree angle to sit right beside it which will keep cable length to a minimum. If it doesn't work flawlessly for the next 5 years I will hold all of you personally responsible. :spit: $450.00 i think for the money it looks like the best out there and have seen no negative comments on it. i was not happy with my samson airline at all.

As for the "pedal" version anyway, according to one guy who bought it, he said he loved it but didn't like that the receiver shuts down whenever the transmitter is turned off, because it takes a little time to boot up again, which is inconvenient. Whether this is actually true or not, or if it applies to both the GLX-D14 and 16 version, I don't know. But if so, I hope this can be avoided by enabling the "locking function" on the receiver, as described in this video from Shure down below. That is, it won't affect the physical power switch on the receiver, but hopefully prevent the receiver from shutting down if the transmitter is turned off.

on the non pedal version the receiver does not appear to shut down if the xmitter is shut off. in fact, ive never had a system do that. at least mine doesn't. and I shut off the transmitter when im not on stage and playing. edited to say after the initial linking, there doesn't appear to be any lag. I'll mess with it tomorrow but mine is simply turn on and go. im not sure if this is unique to the pedal version, but no issues with the non pedal version.

I've already ordered and received both this right angle 1/4 jack cable below, which looks very solid and has a silent jack, plus a extra Shure SB902 battery, while I am waiting for the GLX-D16 to hit the stores sometime soon.

Unless you have a particular preference to the Switchcraft connector you may want to look at Neutrik instead. Much easier to solder, more reliable, better strain relief and also available in silent version as well.

I used to always buy Switchcraft but had so many of their right angle connectors go bad after a while and have had no issues at all with Neutrik.

I've gone the other way - preferring Switchcraft over Neutrik mostly because Neutrik was ridiculously priced in oz where I was ... But the truth is you will have failure in whatever brand you choose. I've had Neutrik locking, silent, and regular fail on me, and whatever brand they always fail 5 mins before the first tune at a gig. Made a batch of RA Switchcraft to Switchcraft 1/8 locking and they worked fine for loads of gigs till a large outdoor NYE gig, it was fine at sound check but for some reason failed just before downbeat of the first tune.

The only problem I had with my G30 was the battery compartment door, it would not stay closed I had to put a piece of tape. Line 6 even sent another door nada!

Yep, the flimsy battery door is a well known issue. Other than that, I think the "up to 8 hour" battery life is kinda relative. 4 hours is probably closer to the truth. That's my experience anyway with AA batteries of good quality. That's one of the reasons why I want the new Shure system. But I liked that the G30 had 1/4" jacks in both ends.

i got my GLX-D14 today with the right angle cable. the cable itself is very thin. really nice unit though. i might have to upgrade to a thicker cable just....ummm....because!

the TX is metal and very heavy duty, the RX is plastic and very light weight. don't ever drop it because it might not survive.

Has anyone held the GLXD transmitter in their hand yet?

The WA340 works by threading the locking ring onto the exposed threads of the input jack on some of their pro transmitters.

It won't work on my PGXD1, because the pack has a flush-mount, integral jack.

I can't tell for sure from photos of the GLXD1 transmitter, but while that one obviously has an exposed "neck" sticking up out of the body of the transmitter, I'm not sure if it's threaded...
