Best digital wireless- Line 6, Sony, AT, ???

Steve, regarding batteries, I would charge them whenever I got the chance. For any rechargeable battery technology after NiCad, there's no memory effect, and with some technologies, letting the batteries consistently get too low is what can actually hurt them, just the opposite to NiCads.

So if your batteries are NiMH or LIon, I'd consistently charge them before they need charging. My experience indicates that this approach is the best of both worlds.

Interesting ... my G30 receiver is placed inside my pedalboard, inbetween two wooden shelves with other pedals surrounding it on three sides and over the top, and I have not experienced any problems with dropouts or bad reception.

My Shure GLXD16 is one of the most incredible pieces of equipment I've bought in a long time!

Loving the incredible run times for the battery and have completely stopped using my other tuner in preference for the
quick and accurate job the built-in tuner does.

I've never had a strobe tuner before but after a couple weeks of using the tuner in standard mode, switched to strobe which has really sped up the tuning process.

Standard tuner is great, but very, very sensitive and I kept over-shooting, which is not a problem at all with the more intuitive strobe mode.

Can't stress how much I love being able to run a cable from the computer to the transmitter to charge up the battery.

A little update: my church recently upgraded to a 32-channel Presonus AI, in order to accommodate the growing number of people we have on stage.

This has increased the number of iDevices in use, as most of us are running Qmix for IEM control on our 'phones, and OnSong separately on iPads, for charting. There are also multiple Apple TV's for the various projection screens, additional iPads for FOH control and projecting song lyrics, and most recently, a Line 6 wireless headset for the pastor.

We haven't experienced any dropout issues with the Line 6, but it has worsened the problems we were already experiencing with wi-fi connectivity for Onsong and Qmix/SL Remote.

We had 18 wi-fi devices going last Sunday morning, just for the music program, and Qmix AI was up and down like a toilet seat.

Our tech dweebs are currently looking at rebalancing our network across the 2.4 and 5GHz bands, but it's looking like we may have to go all the way to zoned wi-fi in order to get the stability we need.

All of this has made me quite pleased with my decision to go with the Shure PGXD system, which operates outside the wi-fi band, at 900MHz. My radio doesn't add any grief for the tech crew, sounds just as good, and has been just as reliable as any instrument wireless that operates in the wi-fi band.

I realize that this doesn't necessarily translate to what you'd experience in a typical club or dive bar, but it's definitely the way installed audio seems to be headed, not just in churches, but in live theatre as well.

Bought a new G30 on sale for $199 plus a medium sized Velcro bag for my strap, cut a hole in the bottom for the 1/4" out and it worked flawlessly on the first gig. I set the receiver in the pedal board (another bass player mentioned to me the extra cables he didn't like from his pedal board to his rack mounted receiver). Also like that it uses a standard cable with 1/4" ends for the transmitter. another gig tonight.

Any update on the GLXD16? How is battery life going on the transmitter? No signs of it deteriorating after a few months of use?

After 6 months of avoiding a decision between a GLXD16 or a Relay G50 I'm back at the crossroad again. I want to get a micro Thumpinator on my board, and the only way that will happen is downsizing my wireless. I currently have an XDS plus on my board. Both would serve my purposes. THe only thing I don't like about the GLXD16 is that if I run a lead at rehearsals or whatever I lose my tuner. I know it is rechargable, and there is no reason not to use the wireless, but sometimes you just plug a lead in....you know?

Those that decided between these 2 units - what clinched it for you?

Battery life has not diminished what so ever since I've had mine, and no troubles at all. Just plug in, play hard, and forget about the wireless. The only time I mess with it is when going from an active to a passive bass. I go from -2 to +10 on the input signal on the wireless receiver, and I dont have to mess with my amp settings. I couldn't be happier with my purchase.
Edited to add I dont have the pedal board version of the glx-d, but the one that goes on my amp.

I've still got a G50 as well as a couple XDS Plus units, and while they have all served faithfully for the most part, plan on replacing all of them with a couple more GLXD16's.

Freedom from antennas and battery changes, very robust build, quiet operation with no dropouts, easy to read wide-ranging battery level indicator, easy USB charging using the same cable that charges my phone, and the incredibly, and tightly accurate strobe tuning has me completely sold.

First, I want to say how helpful the posts about the Shure GLX-D have been. I purchased one on the basis of what folks said here, and it's just as good as everyone claims.

That being said, I do want to mention that if you want the WA-304 right-angle cable for the transmitter, you don't need the WA-340 collar. The WA-304 has a very small but sturdy lock, which is barely visible on the connector as it appears on the Sweetwater website:

Use the Shure weekly and on some weekends 4 gigs no problems
