Best Emo/Post Hardcore Bassist?

he jumped ship and went to that abomination known as angels and airwaves. that band is like scientology or guns and roses.. lots of talented individuals under the power of a leader that is bat**** crazy.

atom willard (of offspring and rockets from the crypt fame), matt wachter (of 30stm), and david kennedy (of boxcar racer). ALL under the crazed leadership of the stick in tom delonge's ass. :scowl:

o man he must have some sorta of special power to be able to convince all those musicians to leave mad bands and join angels and airwaves
they should reform into the previous, far superior bands
Blink 182, 30secs to and offspring i really dont know much about boxcar racer
but that sucks

was tom the one with the higher voice cause i prefered the guy with the lower one

tom was the annoying but lovable one with the higher nasaly voice and random boston accent only on certain words. mark would be the calmer one. he went onto form plus 44 (good band) and produce a few really good records.

box car racer happened between blink albums. it was supposed to let tom delonge's emo ideas out so he could be a goofy punk singer in blink 182. instead, they went a little soft/artsy on the last album, broke up, and he formed a new band that is nothing but him pretending to be Bono and 5 minute songs consisting of nothing but delay pedal turned to max. YMMV, but i cant stand AVA, and i hate how he has neutered so many good musicians.

O yeah lol i forgot
which is strange casue they are like one of my fave bands
THEY EFFING ROCK
you know jeph recently attempted to sell hiw 'wick thumb on ebay
no one bought it
they are realeasing a new album in 4 weeks-ish

yeah i saw that, shame nobody bought it, he's massively underrated as a bassist, he's only known for his tattoos.
his work on 'In Love and Death' blows my mind whenever i hear it.

if he were to sell one of his jazz basses i would totally consider buying it.

Ya +44 are awesome
yes mark is my favourite i like his voice
and a bass player so yeah
and hes not a complete spastic thats always a plus

as much as i cant stand burt, and most of the time, the used by proxy, i like some of jeph's work. quinn is a great guitarist.. shame he has burt speaking for the band.

jeph is a huge inspiration of mine, probably my favorite bassist actually. he's kinda like entwistle i think in that although quinn is really pr officiant his guitar lines are fairly simplistic rhythmically at least so jeph really gets to explore.

my thoughts anyway.

ive always seen something different in quinn's guitar work. when everyone else was doing the same thing, his work was just a little more cutting edge. and playing some of his parts can be a little tricky. especially for a screamo band.

i do like some of what he does with tapping and the like.
the guitar in the verses of 'buried myself alive' is a good example of that.

I love the whole band and there story
poverty stricken, homeless, substance abuse and oh yeha bert mc crackens girlfriend, pregnant with his child overdosed obviously this all subjective but I love this band

Gonna go with my conception of, non-depressing, non-metal emo and PROPER post-hardcore, not screamy bands that have never heard a funk or reggae song in their life, so I can keep my urge to rant about the use of these terms down (especially post-hardcore since I'm pretty much in a post-hardcore band).

For emo I'd go with the bassist out of The Get Up Kids, no idea what his name is but he and his band are awesome. For post-hardcore I'd have to go with Joe Lally from Fugazi... obviously :p

What band are you in Rob?

Need to listen to some early Thrice actually still, heard it's pretty awesome.

A band called Sounds of Swami from England, we're not that big or anything though. I say we play post-hardcore, but we do mix a bit of hardcore punk, stoner rock riffs and other random stuff in for good measure a fair bit, I think post-hardcore sums us up the best though.

People use the term post-hardcore for alot of bands I'd say weren't at all though, they don't seem to have a very similar style or attitude to alot of the landmark post-hardcore bands like Fugazi, At The Drive-in, Hot Snakes, Quicksand, The Minutemen and Rival Schools the whole things a bit ambiguous so it's kinda hard to say "that bands a post-hardcore band", but you can say for certain that alot of the bands referred to as post-hardcore aren't that original and don't really have much of the positive attitude, DIY ethics and general artiness that are generally synonymous with post-hardcore. I'm not against the evolution of musical styles, punk today is very different from what it used to be, but also alot of bands are referred to as punk that aren't very punk (excuse my opening of a massive 100% extra free can of worms there but you get what I mean), same goes for post-hardcore.

Got a link?

That goes for anyone else too, if your band falls in the post-hc/emo scope please post a link to it. I'd like to hear what other TB'ers are up to in these styles. Please don't use this as a chance to mention your band if it doesn't fall in that genre though. Thanks!

What about us metalcore/deathcore folk? We are like hardcore, but with heavy ass breakdowns!

Nick stewart from as blood runs black, Or Aaron from Knights of the abyss are my two favorite bassists right now. I've talked with both guys before, both really great guys, both great bassists too. Aaron plays paintball and used to frequent on another forum I go to, But he has been away for awhile so it has been a few months since I last spoke to him.

Oh, and they both don't use picks, and they pluck as fast as some of the guitarists alternate picking, Which is really fast, and they play some pretty technical stuff.

If you're into that kinda music, check em out!
