best female bassist

I haven't heard too many female bassists (or a whole lot of female musicians (compared to male). I'm not sexist, its just that there are a lot more males when it comes to famous musicians, especially what i listen to.) I would have to say carole kaye out of what i've heard, but my what i say doesn't really count for much of anything.

don't be so hard on yourself, Tracy ! everyone at TB gets taken seriously ! :) unless you happen to be a gibbering primate with little respect for anyone else, of course.. but i don't think you fal into that category.

i was wondering about Talena Atfield of Kittie ... man, she's shocking. her tone blows, man - people like this chick on her looks only i've noticed. how on earth did some Kerrrang ! or whatever vote her to be "metal bassist of the year" ???

"Bass Player Wanted, No Chops"

:D

My favorite would have to be D'arcy of the Pumpkins... not just because I'm a huge Smashing Pumpkins fan, but because she has some pretty cool grooves. Check out 'Glass & The Ghost Children'... its pretty simple but its one of my favorite bass lines of all time.

Also, I like Paz Lenchatin, but unfortunately Billy Howardel wrote all of her bass parts.. she's still cool though. Crazy brazillian women rawk!

Oh, and that bassist from Kittie would be hot if I had an attraction to corpses...

Ok heres the deal, Talena, the bassist from Kittie really can not play very well at all. She is very much a georgeous little thing and I do like the band. I know what you people are going to say, "her lines are simple but at least she can hold a groove" but that is my point, she can't hold a groove. You have to listen to some stuff of her live and you will see what I mean. I also think here tone is horrible. I don't want a long disscusion on her but after I saw alot of posts saying she was the best female bassist & *ToNeS* said that he heard she got a best female bassist award, I had to reply. Now before anyone replies to this I ask them to download Charlotte live on the later show to see what I mean. It makes me wonder if she even pays on the album.

On a side note, the talk about the S. Pumpkins bass as in the instrument being non existant on alot of there stuff is true, but they have alot of bass as in frequency wise on their albums thats for sure.

on their first album (is there another one ?) i don't think she played on any of the tracks, actually ... Kittie had a bassist before her called Tanya that actually sang on a few tracks as well.
Talena is terrible. formerly she was a drummer in some other band that kicked her out for "no apparent reason"
