best Fender bass???

I like the Fender Basses made between 1995-2000. I can take any of the black ones or the 97 jazz bass to a gig and feel right at home, regardless if I am playing jazz or music in church. As you can see all the black Precisions have been modified with a jazz pickup and are either loaded with EMG's or hot passive pickups. I prefer the sound and tone of P&J's in a Precision over the split pickup alone, but that me.
I also prefer the fender noiseless p bass pickups.
Seriously. I just love this bass. I bought it new back in the day. It's a part of me. It makes my ideas come alive. It knows me. Not flashy. Just good --- everytime. I'll never sell her.
my favorite to play is my 51 reissue, the best ive played has to be either my 50s classic p or my 62 reissue p foto flame love love it
Anyone---try the Tony Franklin Fretted ? I love P/J passive and this one has the 3-way pickup selector switch. I have never tried one, but on paper looks like what I would want.

This is a VERY tough one... I'd probably say my J72, but it is cosely followed by my P's (64 and 79). Not to mention my SR 78, which I consider as much a Fender bass as any newer Fender branded basses... Damn it's tough... maybe it's the P that's my favorite after all, or... I don't know - BUT I know my favorite basses are definitely designed by Leo Fender!
This makes me think how Fender has diluted its own history, and cashed in on it's own legacy. Lets just consider it a MIM Roadworn, kids.
It`s 60`s Jazz Basses, no doubt! Sounds and feels so great... I`ve played a lot of basses and the jazzes is the best for playability, punchy sound and reach tone, I might add!

The best bass for most players is the one they get along with best. I think the link between player and bass is as critical as the amplification, and rest of the music to the bass player.
I'm not very experienced though. Just my 2c.
An objective 'best' is to general for a consensus.
Most versatile, most popular, most ergonomic, most suitible for metal.... well you can discuss specifics forever. Not that I'm objecting to that on Talkbass LOL.

The best sounding Fender I ever layed my hands on was a 1964 Precision, closey followed by a 1966 Precision and a 64(ish) Jazz. The best in terms of build quality were the American Vintage '62 Precision and the Roscoe Beck 5 string, which both sounded great, too.
The best fenders I ever played -a very nice alder body rosewood board jazz and a P , made from the same materials.
Both as well as the follow ups in terms of 'best' were japanese.
