best Fender bass???

The great thing about Fender basses is you can make them into the bass you want. ... Everything is interchangeable and the way Leo wanted them.
A refinished '63 P bass that was at Carter Vintage in Nashville Tennessee last fall. That thing spoke to me. It was light and resonated like nothing else I have ever played, and I have played a ton of vintage and new Fender basses. (I used to work at a shop.)

Mad Love for the Almighty 'Dyne!
I still dearly love the "Almighty 'Dyne" intensely, what with it's many, non-standard tweaks upon the classic Jazz bass design. But more importantly, it's specs helped me zero-in on many sonic and ergonomic touches that work best for me…P/J configuration, Jazz body and neck, vintage radius, etc.
All of these, combined with input from fellow TalkBass members and some random discoveries on the web, went into the creation of my own, favorite "best Fender bass, in my opinion"…Projekt Blue!

For the "TL-DR crowd", it's a hybrid of an Aerodyne Jazz (neck), a Reggie Hamilton-sig (pickup placement, Drop-D tuner), an MIA Jazz (bridge) and a few, unique touches all of my own (Fender Super 55 split-coil bridge pickup, Santellan Sounds series/parallel wiring harness, Jockomo fretboard "inlays", DIY tinted pickguard)…all that wrapped up in an 8½ pound package!
Just noticed when this thread was first posted. Clued in after reading a gents discription of his new 07' Geddy Lee, but he thought the "NEW" 08's seemed better.
My Warmoth P. But what really makes it special is the 93-94 MIM Jazz neck. Easily my favorite neck so far.

That pic is a few years old. I've since added a pink paisley to the mix. If you ever get a chance to buy one of these CIJ basses do so, they play as good as they look and sound quite a bit different than a standard split P precision or jazz bass. Here's the pair...

'76 P bass (natural/maple/tort) is/was my main bass for many years. '68 P (rosewood/burst/tort) is a close second, though it has a different tone (darker, more mids, more of a Jamerson/Motown sound, the '76 is a little brighter and more articulate). Both have B necks.
I always liked the 62 avri jazz or precision, just awesome quality and decently priced in the used market. Here's my 62 avri collection
