No. This has been discussed adnauseum. Sure, you can pull down your lowest EQ slider or bass control knob on your amp, but it won't have the same effect because the slopes aren't as steep as what you find in HPF.

Question for the Broughton users: I was looking at their $95 mini HPF and was curious about the 9-24 volts power requirements. Would it be ok to use a One Spot daisy chained off a couple other pedals? Or does this thing need a dedicated power supply.

I'm sure this has already been answered but on the slim chance that it wasn't, I'll just say that I use one and it's Daisy chained off a 1-spot with 5 other pedals and it works fine!

Does the input and output impedence matter much on a HPF pedal?
For example I found a European maker of HPF pedal which has a variable output impedence of 0-220kohm (with knob to adjust) and 1.8mohm input impedence.
The Broughton has for example other values.

Does it affect use and sound?

It may and it may not depending on your bass (passive or active) and the device you are driving into.

...slightly off topic, but I am happy to see onboard HPF controls on a couple of higher end bass head offerings (Mesa D800+ and Berg Forte HP)......hopefully this feature will eventually trickle down to more and more bass heads....since I began using an HPF I am now pretty much always using one.....either a Broughton pedal or the ones integrated into my D800+ head and pedal pre.

Agree completely. My Acoustic Image Focus has a variable HPF built in, and it has spoiled me. I can't imagine buying an amp without a built-in Variable HPF, preferably with a slope ofc24dB per octave.

My FDeck HPF Pres have been very effective, and their higher input impedance makes Piezo p'ups sound better to my ear. But I really like the convenience iof having a variable HPF on the front panel of my amp.

Lately, I've been considering installing a variable HPF in one of my amps, which might be ideal with my active basses.

Just to clarify, the variable HPF on Acoustic Image amps are 12dB per octave. I know you didn't actually say that it was 24dB per octave, only that you'd prefer that it were. I do agree that a 24dB per octave one might be better to have, but 12dB per octave still gets the job done nicely.

When I'm not using my AI Clarus+, I use a Broughton (switchable, because I like having the numbers).

Exactly how I do it. I bought two Broughton filters to run on two separate amplifiers, but recently purchased a D-800+. Wow. The built-in HPF works as easily as the Broughtons, and since the D-800+ has become my preferred gigging rig, I haven't needed to use the others at all. I wasn't too fond of the D-800+ at first (the footprint) but it has earned its way into the #1 spot in my arsenal. The HPF was just one of the reasons.

I've had Fdeck's original and Series 3 HPF-pre's. Lately he came out with a pedalboard-friendly Mini version of the Series 3. Simple to use, one knob. Very effective. I'm liking it a lot.

I use 2 HPFs. 1 Boughton variable -12 db per Oct, set at roughly 65hz (depending on room) , and an SFX Thumpinator , a -36 db "brick wall" permanently at 28hz. If I could only have one, it would be the SFX, as the Boughton is more for tone shaping..
Ideally, I would love a Mesa TT800, with variable - 24 db , I would drop both..

I also have an original in my upright gig bag and recently bought a brand new series 3 mini for my EB board. Still trying to figure out best placement, but it basically sounds good in any position. I'm using your board as a template. Now I just need one of those Nobles lol

Broughton BBA at the start of the chain and Broughton HPF at the end of the chain works perfectly for me.
