Best lightweight bass under 600$

Hi, I just started playing the bass on an old el maya bass guitar that weighs a ton, i got some serious back problems and this aggrevates my condition a lot.

So I was wondering if anybody here knows some good bass guitars that dont weigh a lot, preferably affordable ones..

Thanks a lot! /David

I agree.... I called Yamaha just now, and the operator asked if I was a consumer or a dealer, and when I said consumer, she transferred me to a recording telling me to go to www.yamaha.com and click on Service & Support, where they list the same phone number I just called.... so I emailed them, instead. I'll let you know when I hear back re: the weight.

I've played the guitar version. VERY light, very good tone - clear, articulate, extremely resonant. I liked it a lot. The electronics on the guitar were very useful. Here's a more in-depth review of the bass from Bass Player:

PASSIVE electronics. It does take a battery, but that's only for the little colored LED lights around the knobs. You can take out the battery and it will simply turn off the lights without affecting the tonal electronics at all.

E mail David Certain out of St. Louis. He built me a Jazz bass clone that only weighs 7 lbs and sounds AMAZING. His e mail is [email protected]. Everyone who has played has freaked out.

I found it as a hit on google when i searched for the weight, couldnt enter the page though..

Right now im going back an forth between the peavey millenium and the yamaha.. wich one is the best one do you think?

how much are you looking to spend?

LOL... good to see you're reading thread titles, Mark :smug:

As far as the weight, yeah, I don't know... But it looks to be between 5.5 and 7.5 pounds. Still, that's very light - you'd be hard-pressed to find a regular-size bass (as opposed to short-scale, or tiny-bodied bass) that weighs that little. It's worth checking out if you have a $600 budget and back problems. I haven't played one, but really liked the guitar version that I tried.
