Best punk bassist ever

The guy is quite talented, but he is super busy, on the second clip, he has a fill at the end of every line. Come ****** on. The beauty and power of punk rock is the whole three (sometimes two) chords and the truth philosophy. He seems like he'd be more at home in a fusion or funk band, someplace where all those notes might be able to find a home. This is like trying to sketch a still life using an industrial spray gun; there's a big waste and you don't get what you wanted in the end. Being able to play your instrument isn't necessarily a hinderance when playing punk, but it kills it for me when showing off takes the place of crafting good songs and playing your balls off.

Mike Watt! Best Punk Bassist Ever! and has more bands than any other punker out there. If you have never heard of Dos check it out two basses and... thats it
Not since about 1977. There are lots of interesting post-punk/hardcore/grunge/etc. bassists out there, though.seems to be what a lot of the younger TalkBassers are talking about.

Seriously, Paul Gray (not the Slipknot dude, the English dude) is in my mind a much better bass player than Paul Simonon, especially when he played with The Damned:
He left The Damned after 3 albums, I believe, apparently did not like playing punk that much any more, which is said because his lines are probably the best punk bass lines ever.
I don't get it. Did Mike O'Toole post a video of Mike O'Toole and then claim that Mike O'Toole is the best punk bassist ever?

mmm so I guess X, early Blackflag, Social Distortion, FEAR, all those LA bands from 78 on are not punk? I think they might disagree with you...
I could be wrong, but wouldn't the best "punk" bass player pretty much hate the fact that you are labeling them as the best? Not trying to be judgemental, it just seemed like an ironic thread.
