Not a put down, just an observation based on the majority of responses - seems like a lot of TBers weren't born yet in 1977. This is not anybody's fault, but a lot of focus on the revival of the revival.

JJ BURNEL, DEE DEE RAMONE, BILLY RATH, JOHE DOE and whoever played Paul Simonon's parts on record.

I've also been impressed by Matt Freeman and Fat Mike, but there's probably a few lesser knowns.

Lex Feltham, who was with Frenzal Rhomb from 1992 to 2002, was a (relative) monster:

EDIT EDIT: After watching that Frenzal clip, I'm not sure it's the best representation of them as a band. That whole thing was very contrived.

Just as an aside, if you're into late-70s punk, Jon Savage put a compilation together called 'Black Hole: Californian Punk 1977-80'. It has some great liner notes and the whole thing captures the Californian reaction to what was going on in London at the time really well, IMHO.

Of course, some of you guys sound like you probably hung out with the bands on this compilation... But not all of us are talented enough pick our birth date and place

You mentioned the great Clint Conley; I almost did, but I personally don't think of Burma (or Fugazi) as "punk."

I went to high school with some early SoCal punk bands...The Simpletons, The Stepmothers, Rik L Rik, The Clan, etc...Billy Zoom is now a good buddy, which really freaks me out sometimes...he was my idol as a kid
