Double Bass Best quality bass amplification?

So you want to know our opinions as long as we leave out our opinions? :)

I'm partial to the EA Wizzy cabs. I also like the tonal-shaping flexibility of their standard amps.

As to noise and hiss, any good-quality, modern amplifier circuit will have those essentially nailed. The differences that really set them apart include tone-shaping circuitry, amount of power, current capability, and configuration of the input stage (e.g., impedance, infrasonic filtering, resistance to overload). Of course all of these parameters interact with and can determine whatever it is you define as "clarity" and "detail."

The clearest, most uncolored sound I have personally heard comes from an Epifani UL-502 head into a UL-410 cabinet. Gorgeous, detailed and clear sound....

+1. I know many people who frequent this forum will endorse this if they see the thread. That's what convinced me to try it out. I'm very glad I did. I'm sure there is other gear that will make a good sound too. I haven't tried everything, and gear keeps evolving ... People's tastes vary too. But IMO I think this is a pretty happenin' combination for DB.

I spoke directly to your criteria of "quality, clarity, detailed sound, least noise and hiss" when I recommended acoustic image amps and euphonic audio cabinets. The manufacturers are devoted to keeping their customers happy and often do repairs and upgrades free of charge. It doesn't really get better than that. Personally, I like the WalterWoods . . . . . paired with euphonic audio's VL208 or the Wizzy M line or the the Wizzy 10.

The Glockenlang, Thunderfunk and Epifani equipment is geared towards electric bass. I've played them all with my DoubleBass, and while they do sound good . . . . .

Although it depends which model you tried, the Glockenklang is absolutely not geared towards electric bass. Have you tried the Acoustic Art line? (Nomen est omen) It doesn't get any better than that! (IMHO etc)

Unfortunatelly i haven't tried Glockenklang, but for first glimpse, looks extreamly high quality. It seems they don't care design, portability ( the Bass Art Classic Head is 38 lbs) and they are not cheap, not easy to hold on in the market exept with very good quality. Most of "upright bass amps" are popular becouse the weight not for the sound.

Yes, but IMO, the objective measures of the circuits will reveal that all of the brands mentioned here are fine devices. The differences that matter are those I listed earlier. After that, it is the "features" of the amps that count and how they interact with different cabs. Choices made on that basis are matters of opinion. A listing of the objective specs of the high-quality amps mentioned here will not get one very far in making an informed choice other than being able to evaluate power, etc.

That's what I meant. The good doctor is more eloquent than I.

As an example I have a GK MB150s that I love for smaller gigs. I also have a Clarus and a EA cab. I also love it but it is a bit more to carry that trade off is it is a bunch louder. I used the AI/EA rig last night. I will use the GK tonight. Both are brands that have been mentioned here. Both have been maligned and praised. According to your criterion they are both great amps.

Just try stuff mentioned here until you find the thing that most closely matches the sound in your head and fits your needs.
