I'm listening to a lot of songwriter John Gorka lately.

"Couldn't bribe a wino
on what I used to make"
is the start of his song "Land of the Bottom Line".

What a great opening line.

What are some favorites of yours?

I'll tell you what...
Everybody born, everybody dies right?
Everybody born for something, everybody dies for something.
We'll we're lucky to be here,
Because we should have died a long f***ing time ago!
But we didn't!
We're still here!
You know what we're born for?
We're built for speed!

Perhaps not BEST opening lines, but...

"Are you ready?" from Blind by Korn off their first cd. When I first heard it my answer was yes, but as time progressed the answer was no, no I was not ready for the large amount of crappy music that would follow suit and dominate the air waves. Stupid nu-metal.
