I can't believe nobody has mentioned JPJ, on Heartbreaker for example. Or, just about anything from Geezer Butler.

There is a new band out there called Sleeping Giant, and their bassist (I can't remember his name) has some CRAZY gnarly distortion sounds.
Also, Steven Dail from Project 86 gets some killer overdrive and fuzz on their new cd.

Check out Melvin gibb's on Rollins Band's : "On my way to the cage"... great Fuzz bass!!!

Can you recommend a cd? I have read a lot about him but haven't heard anything from him...
If you wanna know how he got those sounds, PM me...I know a lot more about this subject than anyone could ever possibly realize in their wildest dreams.
Mike Delanian, the original bass guitarist of Gallon Drunk.... Some perfect tasty overdrive on a lot of the early material, e.g., "Some Fool's Mess" .... If I could find that sound in a pedal I would buy it ASAP... Watch, it'll be something easily duplicated with a Boss pedal or something... haha
Oh yeah there's also some great overdriven bass on the Move's final two albums, Looking On and Message from the Country. Rick Price (not the Georgia Satellites Rick Price) played on the former and Roy Wood played bass on the latter. I believe they used WEM amplifiers. Some VERY in-your-face bass tone for 1970-1971.
