Actually, JT not posting here makes perfect sense to me.

IMHO, what he should do is IMMEDIATELY service Mojo, and let Mojo post here. After that, do a helluva lot better job with his customers or be happy with whatever number will let him treat them that way. If that's enough to sustain him, so be it. I won't be one of them, tho.

All a JT post here would do is give him a good excuse to wear flame retardant clothing and take blood pressure medicine... and I'm pretty sure that's all.

+1 Right on the money IMO.

Yeah you are probably right. He should have done that 11 months ago though. I certainly don't expect that he will any time soon so I thought it may be worthwhile for him to post here and at least explain himself.

Hi Update.
I talked to Ric, and Barry today.
We are working to get me a new bass.
Will let everyone know, when and if, I recieve it?
Thanks for everyone supoport.
Will let everyone know how this turns out.

Good news! I'm glad that you're finally getting some dialogue at least. Do keep us posted.

IMO, this is one of the great values (among many others) that the TB community has to offer. If I were in the business of making and/or selling basses and bass related gear, I'd pay attention to a forum that is as active as TB. It may very well be the most concentrated point of access to bass players on the planet. Talk about feeling the pulse of your market!

Thanks to Paul for creating and hosting TalkBass. We appreciate you!

I'm sorry to hear this--I had a Tuner Ren and they were very resposnive when I requested the strap extension thingie.

Rick Turner is probably the single most important guy in the history of Electric bass lutherie after Leo fender. He pioneered active electronics and fancy wood neck-thru's at alembic, he was a pioneer with piezos and semi-acoustics, and with carbon fiber/graphite. He's a really innovative luthier--he made this brilliant guitar design with a movable neck and a graphite rod buttress. Unique and elegant. He'sgennerous in sharing his knowledge and experience

I guess he's a lousy businessman, and I'm sorry to see this.

Pioneered active electronics? Wonder what Ron Wickersham from Alembic would say about that?

He would probably say that rick turner was there from the beginning--ask him.

What does that have to do with who pioneered active electronics? Believe me,I know when he worked at Alembic, and I know quite a bit about their history!! Just because someone worked somewhere doesn't mean that they get credit for doing certain things just because they worked there, just ask Rick himself! Keep in mind one other thing,I also worked for Alembic!

and this ladies and gentlemen, is why i prefer buying a bass off a shelf

+1

Buying off the shelf does seem to make sense.

The luthiers claim (ok-- that's generalizing, and I've been told not to do that), some luthiers claim that letting them have creative freedom by not tying their hands with specs, and placing any expectations for completion of the bass within some timeframe, is the way to get "the good stuff". If we all bought off the shelf, then the luthiers would be free to make what they think is best, in whatever amount of time is necessary, and I suppose then we'd have all "good stuff".

If only that were true!

IMO, the reality is that not all basses, no matter who made them, turn out to be "good stuff". If you have access to a store or shop that has a bit of inventory on hand, just pick up a few copies of the same instrument. If you've ever tried this, you know that there can be quite a difference from bass to bass, even when they're the same model with the same specs.

"Try before buy" is such an often heard mantra for a good reason!

Just to clarify, I just came to this thread cause I saw it coming back up nearly every day, but we're talking about Rick Turner (RT) here, NOT John Turner (who is typically refered to as JT, and AFAIK no relation).

I'm with the majority here in thinking that customer service has been a low note on this situation, Rick's PM highlighting that point. IMO when there is a problem of this magnatude with a relatively small sized company (not with Fender, Ibanez, Gibson et al...) you should have a right to ask to only deal with the name on the company. That person should be (WILLING and) able to do the most for you. I would expect, and have heard clearly that it is the case withthat with Dingwall, Benavente, Nordstrand, Fodera, Alembic, Drozd, Conklin (You can even talk to Bill about the GT series and get a personal response), Ken Lawrence, and MANY others. I would think Turner would be the same.

I'm glad to hear things are moving for you Mojo.

Since this provides at least temporary closure for the original poster, it's probably a good place to end this particular discussion.
