Big E Speakers Part 4 - Quadraphenia

I just googled the 210 Flex cab and saw Tom Bowlus' feature about it from 2019. I know my cab is earlier than that. It has the Speakon jacks in the middle of the top panel, rather than to the side. I wonder if there are other changes. I'd be curious to see what it looks like under that panel, but it's really wedged in there.

And it's a beauty, but did you sell the sub separately or are you using it for something else? Forgive me if I missed a previous post about it. I'd like to obtain the whole enchilada - full 210 flex or flex top & bottom - and see how that pairs with my PJB M-500 head.

Still, now's not the best time - approaching Christmas, have another cab on the GAS list I'm hoping to pick up this spring, already have enough rig for current needs, blah blah blah. Okay, now I'm just making excuses. :laugh:

I am partial to the red however, it would fit in perfectly with my band.

Ah, The Story... Which is partly a tale of the slippery slope of Mike's ongoing improvements in design :D
I had and loved the FlexMod. Then the MAS 109 came out, and I thought "gee, it would be nice to have a single, smaller cab for smaller gigs and rehearsals". I asked Mike if he could build a 109 that could run as either full range or as a sub for the Flex, and he could and did. So I sold the original sub (it's out there somewhere) and got the 109, and used the 109 for smaller things and the FlexMod (with the 109 as sub) for larger.

Then the Bodais happened, but I stayed with what I had. THEN the Bodai 28 came out... and I got a B28 and sold the 109/sub, but kept the FlexMod Top. Then I got a MAS 1,8 and since then I've only used either one or the other (or sometimes the stacked pair) of 8 cabs. I always thought it would be nice to try the FlexMod top with the 1,8 but in 3 years I haven't done that, and I need to clear up some space.

And that's The Story.
I'm not trying to push you, @Razman and in fact I really don't want to ship it and if it takes a long time to sell locally I'm no worse for wear.

Sorry, been looking for an opportunity to say that. :D It does seem to be that a lot of cool items I might be interest in appear available on the left coast - like a motorcycle I recently purchased - so if it came down to it, I know a guy who drives from thither to hither and could get it here safely and probably cheaply.

Still, I do have one specific cab I'd like to acquire first so yours will probably go to it's proper home to someone who will cherish it.

That said, who is 'that guy' or 'gal' going to be to claim it?

Played one of my favorite local venues with my new(ish) mostly acoustic band. Our stage volume is minimal, and hearing myself without causing feedback is always an issue with ABGs and upright (more so with my Kay, than with the NS), so my little MAS-45 Tower was just perfect.

General questions: Does anybody know what's going on with MAS speakers these days? IIRC Mike A passed the speaker building off to Big E, but the Big E website doesn't give any useful info--just refers you to the no-longer-existent MAS website. I have a couple of MAS cabs now (1,8 and 1,8.5), but if I were interested in getting another (which I *might* be), I literally would have no idea how to do it. Does anyone?

Bummer. I have two Bodai 112s and couldn't figure out why two of them weren't very loud (driven by a PLX3602, no less!) until I took them apart and found that one was out of phase with the other, ha. That too was disappointing, mainly because I'm such a fanboi.

To this day I think that the MAS66 is the best cab I've ever played through -- it's got everything I like (beef, heft, clarity, focus, immediacy/slam, dispersion, etc. etc.).

I can't like this post. Those 8" drivers were customs. I haven't spoken with Mike for a couple of years. Hopefully, he is enjoying his retirement. :) I would try all methods to make contact with BigE. It seems possible that there were spare drivers left after Mike stopped building. He had to order them in fairly large lots...

I never got to experience any of Mike's 6" designs. My Bodai 110's are in phase and still sounding fine with the Reeves. The Reeves has such a big low end, I always use the bright channel and roll back the bass. I bet your 112's sounded phat after you got them in phase! :cool:

That photo of your Reeves head on top of the two 110s was the inspiration for me to buy the second 112, ha!

These days I'm most often using up to four ML112s. I like big stacks (and I cannot lie). :woot:
