Hey just thought I would mention that my 46 hooked up unprofessionally to my LCD and blue ray with my PA as power has similar properties that I have experienced in bass playing. i.e. I get great sound when I go to the bathroom which is 40 feet to the rear of the cab. I want to be at one of those events where BigE or Leland is supplying a couple of those 2x18 subs with the other cabs Must be awesome!

On a more serious note, I have a question for mike, steve et al:

When I show people my rig and try to explain it, they often think it is a variant on a folded horn design, that was popular back in the day. Now I know that this design is different than the old folded horns based on talking with you guys, but could you briefly explain how the MVW is different from folded horn so I can speak a little more intelligently when approached about my flex cab? Thanks

Thanks guys, that info provided does give a good deal of insight into the MVW technology. To a lay person like me it still reads somewhat complexly, but it does help explain how the cabinets can produce the results they do. Essentially I take this from reading the links provided:

The MVW harnesses the energy off of the back of the driver by funneling it through a carefully designed channel that increases turbulence and pressure in a way that (similar to jet engines) magnifies it and results in what I would consider a "sonic catapult" (band name, called it!). This turbulence breaks up the sound waves in a way that disorganizes the signal and re-distributes frequencies and pressure. The result is a more even sound from the cab with less focused organized sound pressure that doesn't activate room nodes in the way that more traditional cabs do.


Feel free to correct any of these gross oversimplifications as you see fit.

The remarkable thing in those clips (besides the fine playing) is the dispersion. Glad the camera operator walked around the around the room, even behind the rig. You'd expect to hear the tone change--especially behind the cab and especially in the mids!--but it was consistent.

That's amazing.

It's not that it defies the laws of cabinet design. It's that the laws have to be updated to account for this breakthrough in cab design. (Referring to some of the dismissive skepticism, early in the BigE saga. If this is snake oil, as some said, make mine a double with an Absolut chaser...)

Last night, on the gig, I was wishing mine had arrived so I could be using it. (Hint, hint...Mike! )
