I'm going to have to go with Van Halen firing David Lee Roth or him quitting which ever happened. Van Hagar just wasn't the same in my opinion. The original line up was the best and had a charismatic charm.
There's a myriad of reasons. Here's a few...
- Being famous, nasty journalists, scrutinised by fans & the public
- Touring for months in very close proximity to others
- Performing the same songs every night with the same musos
- Fans expecting 'the best show ever'
- easy access to drugs & alcohol
- Huge pressure from Record companies
- Relationship issues, not seeing your kids, etc.

It's hard to compare band dynamics today. Until the Beatles, it was basically thought that a band would last until one of them got married, or they turned 21. Even when I was growing up in the late 70s, 40 was considered retirement age for rock stars.
Not a band, but a player.
Jason Everman was involved with Nirvana, Soundgarden, and I think even Pearl Jam. Talk about coming close to grasping superstardom on several occasions and not achieving it.

Maybe sonic temple was their breakthroug, but love and electric were much better albums. Though sonic temple had a killer album cover lol3 G'n'R members went on to form Velvet Revolver
KISS put their makeup back on, more than once

Rick Rubin completely changed The Cult's sound (like the UK AC/DC). Yeah, they sold more records, but I'm unsure not using him on their subsequent albums is what curbed the fans' enthusiasm
the Beatles & PF breakups weren't exactly voluntary
Aerosmith went through the same sort of trials, but somehow pulled through

He wouldn't make another album for a over a decade after this farce.

Rick Rubin did ok for the Cult on Electric, but Bob Rock did even better for them on Sonic Temple (it's considered their breakthrough album)

After a lot of adventures and years you cant tolerate some things.
Mental health is better than make forced music.
And The Beatles Paul was the genius, Jhon the psicodelic and bad boy the other two only follow them.
And cmon a band cant work with the wife or girlfriend in the set all the time, if you add drugs cant be worst.
Agreed, but as often happens, the separate members never produced work anywhere near as good as the Beatles did as a band.
Roger Waters and David Gilmour have never made a solo record anywhere near the material that they were previously producing.

But Peter's soul and Ace's fun loving, hard rock/hard living style are what kept them as an original music making outfit instead of the soul-less, imitating, hit-chasers they became..it was the contrast/combo of Peter's Soul, Ace's Cool/Happy, Gene's ego/drive and Paul's Sass that allowed them to be the Hottest Band in The Land...
To be fair...the icos and related super powers also helped...

I think Slash wasn't the only G&R alum to do well. His rhythm section did OK as well.....
Ok, this is old-school. Jon Bon Jovi never acknowledging Hugh McDonald as his bassist. Hugh has played on pretty much every Bon Jovi album since "Runaway" in 1982. But because he was a decade older than Jon; he used Alec John Such for a decade (arguably more for his hairline than bass skills). As a full time time bassist on Bon Jovi's touring band since 1995, he's still never included in band pictures.

Yes, that sucked. I saw a concert vid of them and ther camera would hold on every other member of the band. The bassist was a blur as the cam moved between Jon and Richie
