Billie Eilish Grammy Sweep

Erm, she's anything but a pop star. She has been writing her own tunes for years and she's only a middle-teenager now.
She's extremely alternative, most of her stuff is written specifically not to be radio friendly pop stuff. It's controversial music and is often quite strange. She's super outspoken, has very out of the norm ideas. Funny, extremely talented, and very very dark.
Her brother has been her producer for years... he's brilliant too.
She's extremely NOT pop - much more like tori amos or someone like that who is brilliant and very out there, but has happened to write a couple of songs that reached a larger audience.

I'm afraid that in this case, that is absolutely, 100% not the correct assumption about her.
Not everyone's cup of tea, for sure, but she's about as far from disposable, from pop, and from star as you can get for a teenage girl.

The Grammys have been horrible ever since they started giving awards to songs and people that I don't like. Why couldn't everything stay the way it was when I was young?

I don't get this Billy thing either, but the love for Lizzo has be baffled. I watched a few of her performances including on SNL; I thought it was a mixture of badly executed melodic rap complimented by mediocre vocal performance by a person with a good-but-not-great voice imparting largely vapid content. Some of its pretty creative in terms of genre blending, and her band is pretty solid. There is definitely some humor, not the kind I appreciate, but I guess that can be mildly entertaining... but in 2 out of 4 clips I watched she referred to females as b!tch3s and "Hose". No Thanks.
I'm an old geezer who thinks she's got talent, and is an artist.

The main reason she won all those awards last night was evidenced by her producer/brother when he said that they write deep songs about climate change.
I remember all the magazines and organizations such as Rolling Stone HATED Rush until Neil Peart started writing songs with titles like "Faithless" and released songs with lyrics equating the middle east with the mid-west. Then, suddenly Rush were darlings to such publications and organizations (such as the RRHOF).

I think Ms. Eilish and her brother Finneas make some good music. I don't care for some of her lyrics, but I find myself listening to the whole album. And Finneas' album, too.

Modern music is measured by multi-faceted marketing. Not talent.
Most artists either steal each other's music or have someone else produce it for them. However, the most important factor is how many other products can this person (insert artist) sell? Can the pretty face or sex appeal sell clothing? Check! Can they sell Apple products? Check! Can they sell makeup? Check! Can they sell movies? Check! Can they sell (insert commercial product here)? Check!
And in the end - can they sell out a show? You get the gist of the game. The good news is that talented artists are starting to emerge on a local level that many of us can access on a face to face level. You just have to keep in mind that you can't gauge what you see on TV as a pathway to success. The Grammy's are as much of a business as they are a metric for musical achievement and talent.

If Lizzo were thin, she wouldn't be receiving the accolades she does. She's like the new Adele.

Oh jeez, what a stretch. He said songs about depression, suicidal thoughts, and climate change. Don't try to make it sound like the latter was the focus. Does anyone even know which of their songs refers to climate change? I don't. Certainly not Bad Guy, which is the huge hit.
And Rush started referring to religion no later than 1980 with Freewill, lol.
He was absolutely horrible...terrible singing, typical lyrical content, and sloppy guitar playing with an absolutely disgusting guitar tone that sounds like an 80's Crate combo amp.
