Wow, that’s damning without the faint praise; I’ve been playing for a long time, maybe even longer than you’ve been alive for all I know, and I can do some flash things. But, as it’s not my usual style, I have to work on playing something like Chic’s “Good Times” correctly. That Lizzo tune is a 70’s funk/disco throwback, and the young lady in the video is nailing the Bernard Edwards thing better than I could. It’s a hip bassline no matter who’s playing it. What does anything have to do with the quality of her instrument? Laura Lee travels the world with her SX. While Lee, on the other hand, doesn’t do anything I couldn’t, she’s the one on stage with Khruangbin, not me, and what she does play is perfect for that band. The right notes, the right groove, the right space, but certainly more than Dusty Hill(as the K’s are the other Houstonian lil’ old band from Texas trio).
