Billy Sheehan parts ways with Ampeg?

Hey Jimmy, I've heard somewhere before that billy uses eden speakers in his cabs. I thought that was back around the first mr.big album. Now you mentioned it again. Do you know anything else about it. I myself really like the eden 10's and they have a nice top end bite without using the horn.

ya, someone on here recently told about how he accidentally got a cab earmarked for billy that had edens in it. and ampeg used to use edens in their super high power handling 810hpc. might be where he developed the taste for them.

and Trichards, no need to apologize ;) billy's endorsement of another product effects my life in zero ways. i love ampeg myself but i'm totally behind what anyone else wants to use. plus those hydrives are some badass speakers, and i've never ever been a fan of hartke cabs in the past.

For a long time GK head and a Hartke cab was THE rig. In the '80's and early '90's that was the universal house rig (chicagoland anyway)

It should be interesting to see with Wooten & Sheehan pushing the product if it is THE sh*t again anytime soon

it's a fairly universal backline rental rig to this day, too. and you'd be surprised how many backline companies see svt/810 on my rider and magically turn it into a gk/hartke ;) i wouldn't mind it so much if they used hydrive cabs, but they never do.

Yep, that's how PA area rolls. A GK RB series and a Hartke 4x10 XL. Just good enough to no complain, but not good enough to enjoy!

Are Eden's speakers proprietary? (IE; not "off the shelf" Eminance etc?) That'll make Billy's new move interesting, especially to somebody like Hartke. With Hartke's "sound" being a derivative of aluminum cone speakers.

Billy Sheehan: Most of the guitar tracks are done on Line 6 Pod. I'm really amazed at how realistic the amp modeling is with the Line 6 products.

...And just had to send him an email and ask whether he used the kidney bean POD I bought or his rackmount POD Pro.

He confirmed that the POD I just won on eBay was indeed the one used to record the guitar tracks on that album!:D

I think it was all done on the same Pod---the one on eBay now. Not the rackmount.

Alright, Billy has officially autographed it and provided the letter of authenticity!:D

This is a pleasant surprise, because the last I heard from the seller, he didn't even know whether Billy was in town this week or not and was telling me I might have to wait a little while before Billy can do it.

sorry ray...forgot to answer this.

i have no idea about who made/makes eden speakers ;) however, the hydrives really don't sound like the aluminum cone speakers at all. none of the brittleness of the aluminum cones. i suspect the hydrives are what turned billy around since he's so married to that pearce preamp he's had for decades.

I've only seen Billy with the AK series Hartkes. They are paper cone, but a new design and higher quality that their other papercone series VX? I think is the cheaper series.

But yes, both the AK and the Hydrive sound different than the older XL Aluminum series. Better or worse is up to the player, but it's a very different sound.

I hear Jimmy, all i'm saying as a European is, all i want from Ampeg the very thing that makes the desirable, classic sound and solid build construction made in the USA. My combo is a Ferguson era one, and in 20 odd years never ever had a real problem with it...now that quality.

Funny story, last year at a clinic a young kid with his brand new Fender Strat said to one of the instructors who had a old
G&L Start, " whats wrong mate couldn't afford a real one".
The look on the kids face when told about G&L and the fact that maybe, just maybe Leo may have handled this G&L but never ever would have his Fender was priceless. I think the kids guitar lost a bit of its "magic" that day.

It seem ironic that the very quality we used to expect as standard is now The Heritage Range, and i suppose we pay for that privilege, but hey that's business and that is what i am talking about i suppose.:)

well people complain about the price of the heritage svt's but they're right in line with the price of other tube amps of their quality and wattage range. most other tube amp makers charge $2300 for a 200w amp.

That's a healthy attitude Jimmy, 'specialee for making it through a long gig.;) I'm always happier in my life when the Scientologists leave the building. And that's hard, because I've lost some friends to that cult.

This Billy S auction is reminding me of the time ago that Stan Clarke (another long term L Ron Hubbard devotee) sold all his old stuff.

Those Scientology recruiters are clever...............douche bags. I wonder how many ebay bidders are getting personal messages from "Billy".
