Birdsong Club Pt 2

After 8 years of playing a 2 pickup fretless, no-tone-control Birdsong nearly non-stop, I knew I didn't need a tone control and I wanted to try a single, slightly more central pickup location.

The funny thing was that 8 years ago when I ordered that fretless, the lack of a tone knob was because I wanted a front jack and the control cavity is too small for three knobs plus a front jack. The front jack meant more to me than the tone knob and the time and does so more now.

To be fair, I also have an 8 year old BBox w/varitone if I need an "outboard tone knob" but it only comes out every couple of years. I'm going to have to give it another spin once Rusty arrives.

Officially, we get started at 9. Since we usually have to wait for dinner customers to clear out so we can move tables, it's often a touch later. We stop at midnight.

The gig started as "lead singer and lead guitarist play as a duo the first friday of every month" - but whoever shows up shows up. For 3 years, it's been the thing that keeps the band alive (since two of us are in Northern VA, one is out the other side of Winchester, and two are in Charlottesville).

Poplar Corto with the Delano pickup. I am going to call this one a Cortoval! Scott said this is after two coats of oil, with more to come. The bass will have a maple neck and fretboard as well as a series/parallel switch. I'm going for a brighter look and tone to counter my blackwashed mahogany Fusion.

I just got my hands on the Birdsong Hy5 Scroll bass. Flamed walnut knobs are courtesy of TBer Texan. I am excited to be back in the club after a short absence. This is the nicest Birdsong I have ever played. Some full band sound clips will be ready soon.

That is my favorite Hy5 that ever came out the Wingfeather / Birdsong workshop!
