Birdsong Club Pt 2

Since we're showing the C-Bass love, here is my 13th anniversary again, I'm so glad I was able to pick this up last year.

Tomorrow is the big day Birdsong clan! Scott hinted at a "funky fretless" for the new model, and I'm sure there will be some deals on either his personal stuff or inventory items.

Has anyone been holding back on a purchase or planning on picking up a bass tomorrow during the sale?

I'm going to try to sit this one out. We'll see how I do!

I've been trying to get info out of him for weeks, he's kept it under wraps pretty good, although I think I have an idea.
I should sit this one out as well, but I'll probably end up with something, last year I bought 2!

I have a tradition around this time of year, where I say I don't want any details on the new model, just a super-high-level "yes or no question", rule-things-out sort of answer. Kind of like asking if the new year's car model will be a car or a truck, not actually needing any details on what kind.

He still says no.

I wish I could throw down and order this year, but my HVAC, master bathroom, exterior trim, and daughter's travel softball team have other plans for the money.

Has anyone noticed excessive hum with their Birdsong? Both my Fusion and Corto have been getting excessive hum when the volume is backed off (signal sent to ground), quieted when touching the strings. I had rewired my Fusion EXCEPT for the signal out to the jack and not resolved. When checking this out some more yesterday, I put my hand close to the output wire with the control plate off and the hum started big time. This is vintage cloth covered wire not shielded. The insulation has a waxy coating on it that seems to make it more conductive, though it does not show any conductance with a meter. I threw a piece of teflon insulated wire on in its place, the hum improved a lot. I have some shielded wire on order.

My CBass had some hum just like you described when plugged in certain outlets, but not in others. I haven't noticed it at all recently, and have never had any issues at gigs, it was mainly at my apartment and I chalked it up to the wiring in the bass, the house, or a combination of the two.

Electricity is a funny thingo_O

The hum in my Fusion on stage was really ferocious when I took my hands off the strings to play an open string. That happened once, then i made sure that I was touching something even then. At first I thought it was my amp, but when I plugged my single humbucker Strat in it was completely silent with no other changes. It did not used to be that way, I think the insulation in the original wire is deteriorating somehow. There is a good thread going on right now in Tb about hum and grounding. Some coincidence.

Hum, no. Grounding issues, yes. C 327 had an issue with the jack upon arrival
...bare wires touching. Then later with some of the tag ends on the wires to the pots touching the copper shielding. All easily resolved. No issues at all with F-042. I do have a spacer under the pickup to elevate it a little closer to the G string.

Hey Mitch (@slejhamer ) - any chance of a future meetup so I can try out the Corto-4? I'm pondering hypothetical future basses and "fretted maple neck w/Delano pickup" is on the list (as is a C-bass) and I'd like to see if I like that pickup as much with frets as I do without.
