I'm interested in a cortobass but it's a 9 month wait...….before I pop I think I will look for one used.

Also, if you don't follow Birdsong on Facebook you should do so (assuming you have an account). Scott offers deals from time to time, and it seems like once a year or so he offers a cortobass at original pricing which is something like $1500. Obviously you still have to wait but sometimes he presents a deal that is too good to pass up!

Yeah, I had the Fusion prototype and the fretless (walnut/ebony/purpleheart) fusion-body that you saw, then the mesquite fretless fusion with the rosewood fingerboard and Delano Xtender pickup (ordered in '14, arrived early '15), and "Richard the Test Bass" that Scott sent while I waited on the mesquite fretless to be built.

Uhm @acleex38 how do you feel about the sound of this fretless with the delano compared to the fusion fretless? That is one really nice looking bass and I'm looking to get a 4 string fretless.

My two fretless Birdsongs are:
1.) Ebony Fingerboard with standard cortobass pickup configuration (Lace Sensor at neck, Humbucker at bridge) and "two volume knobs, no tone knob".
2.) Rosewood fingerboard, Delano pickup, and again - no tone knob.

So I don't have a fretless "Fusion" with the standard fusion pickup config. I love the sound of both of the basses above - are you a single-pickup person or a two-pickup person?

I get that with all of the options available - but the bloom has different character.

The Delano is working better *for me* - but I wanted "one pickup, one knob" combined with a super-simple amp EQ setup (Quilter BB800 - two knob EQ, with one of them being entirely reductive).

You have no bad options. I don't think *I'd* go neck-pickup-only with fretless, based on what I know now and my personal preferences - but clearly a bunch of them are out there getting some serious love.

I think Scott's Shortbass in fretless does that pretty well. The one in this demo is the very bass Scott made for me (skip to 2:30 if you don't care to hear the fretted one):

That's a pretty nice Bass, close to what I would order. Two pickups and fretted and I would be envious.

I am very happy with my Shortbass and I hardly play any other bass since I got it a few months ago. However every once in a while, I look at the C-Bass on the website and I can hear it calling me. Then I have tell myself that I don’t need another bass... or do I?

Oh man....the CBass is my favorite! Definitely my go to bass and it just cuts through the mix so well.
