Birdsong Club Pt 2

I'm looking at the 5 string and have some input which may or may not be relevant but it seems that if the headstock was made just a tad wider at the junction of the neck then the B tuner could have been installed a little further out and then a nice straight pull on that string.

I get that, but FYI, I've never had any tuning stability issues with any of my Birdsongs over the years.

Nice! I am the lucky recipient of HY085, the bass Scott decided to use as the template for the Corto5. Plays beautifully!

Apologies for the late comment... I took some time off from playing and missed your NBD post. Congrats on your beautiful Hy5/Corto5!! It’s gorgeous!

I just got my Hy5 back from a setup, and so happy to be playing it again. (Thought I would use my 4 strings in a new band, but turns out the 5 string is the way to go after all!)

Hello everyone !! Wow, it's been a long time since I've been here on talkbass..
Anyway, I recieved my Sadhana on February 16 of this year(2018) and I literally have not put it down since..in fact my first gig with it was February 17(St. Patrick's day) outdoors, in a tent, in upstate NY.. of you live in the northeast you know..lol..without further ado..walnut with a ebony stringer and matching walnut veneer on headstock. All plates, knobs and nut also ebony..and a "Johnny lamp" made from a drop of my body plank..

@beatlebass64, that C5 in Spanish Cedar is beautiful! I'll bet it sounds incredible. How much does it weigh?

I just weighed myself with the bass on and off two times.

8 lbs on the dot.

The bass is wonderful but I am honestly struggling with the adjustment to the 5 string. I'm going to keep at a little longer but I went back and played my 4 string Cbass and felt right at home. I'm not sure I really need the extended range and the wider neck is not as comfortable for me. It's getting better though so I'm going to give it a little more time, but if it doesn't click I may put it up as a feeler

Gigged BX 035 (the rustic pecan PB body with the P p/u a few posts above) on NYE (pop/rock). Great sound...articulate and powerful. I had it on stage along with my Corto 2, one tuned in E standard and the other in Eb.

Neck is a little more rounded than the 2014-2015 era . Equally fast and comfortable.

Hey y'all: I just picked up this killer 2011 Hy5 on the used market. I had a Shortbass for a few months but had to sell it to swing this purchase. It was the right call, the SB was awesome but the Hy5 feels like it was made for me. I had very high expectations for it and so far they are exceeded.

I'd like to run the strings I'm currently crushing on (GHS Balanced Nickels) on here, but I'm not sure the B will fit. Scott suggested that a standard-length B sometimes comes up a little short after the double-through-body deal. Any Hy5 players on this thread have string suggestions? Has anyone run the Balanced Nicks on this model?

Thanks for a great and informative thread, I am so jacked to have gotten this bass.

yeah a extra long B is required. I was going to change out my EADG for TI flats and leave the D'addario long B on it. It's not like I play the B often anyway. I keep looking for used Birdsongs but haven't seen any that I'm looking for if someone sees a walnut Cbass or fretless Fusion please let me know!

Yeah, I missed out on the same exact bass on Reverb 3 weeks prior. I decided to "sleep on it" and it was gone in the morning. This time I happened to see it about 30 minutes after it was listed and snapped it up. I hope you have similar good fortune in your seeking!
