Well, I DID get a blue sparkle Precision while a few were left and that gold sparkle 51 so you KNOW when i found there were limited silver sparkle ones to be had, me and Stew-Mac had to have a chat! I may be recovered but that doesn't repair a faulty moderation gene or existing OCD lmao...I will try and weigh it and let you know. I'm not really bothered by weight a whole lot, but this build might be a "sit down only" player

No, they are specifically neck bolt ferrules. I usually get them from Stew Mac (silver) but I found some cool gold ones on ebay that I used on my Glam P/J.

Thanks for hippin' me with that knowledge! I was unaware...go figure. And if sparkle is the "new" black my black bass collection just doubled. Bet I can't post em in the black and maple thread though

Ok...just got it. Really doesn't seem that heavy...but I don't have a scale I trust at home. I'll try and weigh it at work (sales mgr. at bike shop) on the "how much does that spoke made of unobtainium weigh?" scale asap.
It is a thing of beauty though and the best part is it cost what materials would to do it without the p.i.t.a. of cleaning flake out of a gun and having it all over the place for the next 2 weeks getting tracked around and in my orifices and hair, etc. Flake = mess of biblical proportion.

Even though it's probably not really me, and my wife would have been quick to point that out to me - man, if it just would have been rear rout or even front rout with no front body channel, I would have taken the bait in two seconds....

Picked up the smoked acrylic from Tap Plastic here in SF and cut out and fine-tuned/fitted the back plate. When I ordered it I brought the template I cut from black poster-board for size, and the service person seeing this asked what it was for. I briefly described what I was doing and he just had a look on his face of like… o - k. 
It would be hard to envision… 
Cut and fine tuned the acrylic back plate and will post pics soon. It's swung from minimal to maximum, but in a good way - subtle even in an over-the-top sorta way.

Ordered the Curtis Novak made Darkstar Classic so need to get a pg resolved. Still attempting to do this through Roger at Invalid Link Removed - he sent a pic of one example but it was bookended which I don't want. Most all bookended highly figured wood ends up with eyes or faces, or some recognizable imagery because when symmetry occurs our minds work to construct a familiar image. Like how a wall plug can be seen as a face w/2 eyes and an open mouth. I read that looking at a crowd of people (like at a sports event or concert) we can pick-out/zero-in on a frowning face within that crowd like a laser. Apparently it's a deeply imbedded survival mechanism so we can either escape or prepare ourselves for adversity.
Had a ton of parts laying around...3 hi-mass bridges of different types, pickguards, etc. Then I remembered Jio's quote about not adding more but using less regarding perfection and went the clean and simple route. Thanks for the tip on the body man!

Thanks man! Yeah, she's all done, plays great, sounds super (Duncans) and needs nothing else. It doesn't seem too heavy. Lighter than a few and heavier than a few, but certainly not objectionably so to me. Can't wait to see your creation and thanks again for turning me on to the clearance bodies.

The Darkstar pu just showed up. (signed/dated by CN… on 4/20 
yah mon, fits into the overall vibe here) I ordered some Rotosound black nylon strings ("good for reggae/dub") from Jason at bassstringsonline.com and since the wood pg guy isn't responding to me I'm going to make my own smoked acrylic pg and back it with the silver paper stock. In doing such it looks the same as if on top of the sparkle body and hides all the P-routs - simple and effective. I have everything I need now, so The Dark Sparkle P in the home stretch.

The extra cool thing is you will be able to see the pole adjuster mechanism through the holes in the back through the smoked acrylic cover. (kind of mysteriously) I'll try and do the extra routing (1" deep) for the pu tomorrow and post some pics soon.

Routed the 1" cavity for the Darkstar pu and looking into another wood pick-guard producer I found on ebay. They do pg's of Goncalo Alves wood that looks awesome.

I routed down 1" and created a rectangle space for the Darkstar pu clearance. Once that was done, I made a 'sink' for it of thin cardboard and copper-taped/shielded the insides. It'll all make perfect sense… eventually. Actually, it negates my post#397 because you won't see the back of the pu from the back. never mind...
