Double Bass Blast cult

Mr Red Brown,

He means me. I am not part of this thread, until now. Thanks.

I got it now... and apologize for that comment I made.

I was considering getting a BC Bass at some point, but this thread turned me off. People not getting their fully paid Basses, lack of communication, and no response on this thread from the company.
And that was a bummer!

I appreciate you clearing the mud here. I sincerely wish you well, and hope the best for BC.
Please keep on making those Rockabilly Basses.

Thank you! Things are turning around. The bass is being shipped, tomorrow, to the customer who paid in full, so that is a major step in the right direction. That was the largest problem. The rest are under way and will follow. Soon, all will be good!

Granted looks are a point especially in a retro based scene/culture. But every scene has that. Jazzers and classical both have their scenes requirements that the adherents hold on to with a death grip.
Me personally I enjoy upright in any scene. I love the instrument not the scene it happens to be sitting in.
Once I figured that out I was happier musically.
I foresee traditional shellac vanish on the higher models... ;)

Yeah, I can’t imagine wasting my time like that. I try to contribute to things I like. There’s plenty of stuff I don’t particularly love or ‘get.’ I’ll just stay off those threads and let the people who do like it have their fun. But maybe there’s folks that go to parties just to make sure others don’t have too much fun...I’d rather just skip the party :)

Ok ok. but I wanted something coffin shaped with flames and skulls that I could stand on.
Because you know all us rocker/billy types care about is looks and show. Tone matters not!
:laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh:;););););) Kidding!
I love traditional oil finishes, seeing wood grain is the business.
I foresee traditional shellac vanish on the higher models... ;)

The more difficult sections of this recent discussion still seem to me to be largely a discussion about differences in genre.

On one end of the spectrum, although I'm sure that there are individual differences, in general is a double bass that is suitable for orchestra. A person's degree of focus on orchestral playing will define how close to the "standard" orchestral double bass they want to get and how much they will want to spend. That doesn't mean the double bass can't be used for other genre, but it is pretty clear what it was built for.

On the other end of the genre spectrum, the early and current generations of King and QC double basses have simply become the "standard" tools. Again, there will be individual differencess, but in general a person's degree of focus on rockabilly / psychobilly playing will define how close to the "standard" rockabilly /psychobilly double bass they want to get and how much they will want to spend. It is pretty clear that these basses were built to meet the demands of the rockabilly / psychobilly genres. That also doesn't mean that these double basses can't be used for other genre.

That doesn't diminish the double-bass-ness of either of these "standard" tools. They are both still basically hollow wooden boxes with strings and a neck. They are tools of the trade.

Just a reminder, a lot of the points that have been been brought up in this discussion recently carry the same odor of the arguments that happen between the extreme ends of any of the other disciplines that people spend large amounts of their time on. While these points may have serious meaning to many of us who are inside this extremely focused area, to an outsider these points and the concerns they represent appear meaningless, shallow and petty, and the majority of public that will be reading these discussions will simply say "Who cares??"...

Keep in mind, to most of the people in the rest of the world, if they know anything at all about double basses, they are simply big cellos.

That is not at all what the thread is about, at least my contributions to it.

If you paid in full for a used car and the vendor promised to have it detailed and change the fluids so it was ready to pick up on Saturday so you could drive to a gig that night, but didn’t deliver for four years, you’d be pissed. Fact. That’s what it’s about.

@KUNGfuSHERIFF I don’t think that was directed at you in anyway. What has happened with the deposits etc.... no one has argued that.

I think it was aimed at Mr pee all over the parade.

He says tomorrow... he was in Europe aparently. I’m too lazy to read back in the thread. But I’ve been told he’s a bass tech for the stray cats now or some band

This is me doing a tuneup on your fingerboard, and this is the box, with the bass packed inside. It is really on its way! Thanks for extreme patience. Jason Burns has sent you an email with info.
