Blew my 12".....AGAIN!!!!!

It's not a case of "right words". HPF vs. LPF are circuits used to do specific things. If you get them wrong, it'll either sound like crap and/or you'll blow your speaker, again. My bad if you deem my response sarcastic; it wasn't meant to be.

I am not saying your responses are sarcastic at all. Neither are mine. Have you seen some of the other responses in this thread? I hear you about different jobs between the hpf and lpf. He has already blown 5 drivers so ... I was trying to say that his 12 inch sub should only produce the notes between the crossover (whatever it is set at) and 30 Hz. No only do the frequencies below 30 not do anything audibly but they can be a real drain on his amps power and could blow the driver ... Am I right on those two fronts?
 
If you have blown five 12" drivers, and they are quality drivers, that should be telling you that you're doing something wrong. Personally I see no reason to biamp in this day and age, assuming there is a high frequency driver on the cab. I would have to assume you're just sending too much low frequency energy to the 112 and it's doing what drivers do when they get too much LF energy.

Keep in mind that it might not be too much watts. The wattage ratings on speakers are just about how much electrical power you can push through the voice coil before it melts. There are physical excursion limits as well--so if you have your bass knobs anywhere in the chain--your active bass, the bass head/preamp, or the amp doing the 100 hz or below turned up too loud--you can push the speaker beyond it's physical limits and destroy it without technically exceeding the wattage rating of the driver.

To fix this, I would say "turn the low frequency energy down". Turn down your bass knobs, or get a high-pass filter to get rid of everything below 30 or 40 hz, which are only rumble in a live environment. I betcha you'll stop going through drivers.

That was stated as a response to someone who told me that I probably didn't know that a 15" speaker wasn't truly 15"...

Well, I think I'm on my 5th blown woofer in my AVATAR 112 cab. As of late, I've been using it as the low end of a biAmp setup with only frequencies below 100Khz going to it.

The tuning of the cab could have something to do with it. If the frequencies running through the cab are regularly below a certain threshold (which I suspect is happening), the cone vibrating at below a certain rate can causing wearing and tearing that can leave it open to blowing more easily. The problem could be fixed by getting a new cab for the low end of your biamp rig, OR possibly by running a high pass filter on the low end (sounds counter intuitive) to roll out the extra low frequencies that could wear out the speaker. Blown 5 times? Seems a little excessive. Has to either be a wiring issue, a wattage issue, or an ohm rating issue. Also, like most people on here have already stated, go with a 15"! 25 HZ to .1 KHZ is a good range for a 12", but seems it must be driving super hard to be blown out. Most 12's should handle around 400w at 4 ohms, whereas most 15's can handle the same ohm rating, but with 600w. Also, with a 15" you get that 20 HZ to .1 KHZ range.
