Blog advice

I've been getting the urge lately to begin my own blog. I have so much to say on any number of topics, most of which would get me instantly banned here on TB and other forums. So I keep my big mouth shut, but with a blog, I'm pretty much free to say what I want. Problem is, I don't know where to get started. Are there any TB bloggers who can point the way for me? :confused:

I have to admit that as blunt as Let It Fall was, he's absolutely right.

Again, to be blunt, most people believe they're interesting, funny, intelligent, etc... but frankly, so few people are. You'll need to find an angle to make your blog worth reading. Assuming you already found that out, you can open one up on Wordpress, for instance. Plenty of people do so.

For an example of a blog that's interesting and is a hit, check out Maddox ; http://maddox.xmission.com

With no crazy layout or graphics, his page hit a few million hits over the years. Regardless of whether you enjoy or agree with his blog, it's nevertheless clearly a success. If you can be innovative like this, you'll have a big chance of being popular.

I dont think Ive ever read blogs, as Im not interested in hearing random people from the internet talk about their views.

I dont think you need to stand behind it for the rest of your life, so long as youre able to intelligently explain why youre position on something has changed.

Anybody who's ever said that always comes off as boring and pretentious. It's not a fact that your opinions are interesting. It's (ironically) your opinion. My 2 cents.

I dont consider TBers random people, we're people with common interests, but your point is clear :p

(anyways, there are only certain people here who I pay attention to)

OK, so I'm boring and pretentious. So what? Why should you care? This is just your opinion anyways. When you say that "anybody" how big is your sample size?

Look, I just started this thread to get some advice about starting a blog, not whether bloggers are boring and pretentious. That's actually very pretentious of you to say.

Its your job as the blogger to convince us why we should care about your opinions.
They may very well be interesting, but we dont know that.
Youve not done a great job of convincing anyone here to read your blog.

I don't care if anyone here reads my blog or not, All I was doing was simply looking for some advice on starting a blog, and for a good place to have one. Get it?

Most bloggers are boring and use it as a electronic diary, but some are good. I like the video blogger phillip defranco on youtube. He's funny and I always find myself laughing. He is one of the good ones in my opinion but I have seen others from some friends that are the worst thing in the word to sit though.

I read sports blogs because I find them interesting. Even most sports reporting isn't much more than informed speculation.

I'm with matticus, anyone worth reading will do a good job of convincing you that week in and week out.

1: Download Wordpress (free)

2: Go here to get free hosting (free)

3: Set up anonymously and maintain through Tor Browser (free)

QED.

I've recently set up a blog for (among other things) archival tech advice I'm sick of repeating every three days here and elsewhere.

It really helps your mood and burnout level to be able to just say, "Here, read this [link] and have a nice day."

It's the most efficient way of of actually helping people on forums and you get around dealing with the bubbas and moderators with god complexes.

What's not to love? :confused:
