Boots: What are you wearing?

So you need them to be acceptable for work, why wear boots then? I've got many many pairs of boots and they each have a reason for owning. My "real" boots are not suitable for indoors and definitely not appropriate for indoor work environments. I've got boots I can wear with a suit and some I have even worn with a tux at non country type events - attendee and performer. Boots is a very broad category.

Tell us why you need boots for a useful reply, or be prepared for every schmuck to list off what they own and feel the need to promote (defend).


Whoops, just found your post about your needs. Does Eastland still make boots? I've had some nice light duty casual boots from them - back when they were still made in the US. Pretty comfortable without the bulk of the doc martens and good for city streets.

I work for a school district and in a video production environment which is dress casual. I can wear jeans - a rarity for the east coast. It's totally acceptable in my situation to wear boots if I want. We are expecting a hard winter for the mid-Atlantic region this winter and want a good boot for walking through snow/rain. I do need to get from my car to the building in those elements.

I normally wear Dr. Martin's which serve my purposes well. It's really not that complicated.

I've worn Docs, Timberlands, Vasque, Merrell. All Nice, but no where near the bang for the buck you get from Alico.

Thier prices have risen in the past year or so but the Alico Summit specifically can be had for around $200

Another vote for Doc Martens, although I think they are getting less durable. 2 years ago I bought a new pair of 10 eye toe caps, and 6 months ago the stiching gave out and the upper seperated from the heel. I did wear them while salting an icy parking lot for 2 full winters tho.

I wear Brazos jungle boots, but I walk through a lot of water, so I need something that drains rather than something that insulates.

Also, at less than $30, they're disposable. I wear out footwear and truck tires mercilessly - although the latter aren't cheap at all.....

I just gave away my favorite work boots to a buddy who is a linesman in CO. I don't think they are made anymore, google didn't turn them up, but these are pretty close - except mine were brown with steel toes. Bought them back in the '80's and didn't wear them too often, but loved them the same.

Since I don't do work that requires these sort of boots I figured he needed them more than I do. Plus it takes half a day to lace the things up!

I did wear them on stage a time or two. They give a totally different vibe to your playing when these are on stage.

When I bought my first pair of Redwings, it was down to those and Royers. I had heard more about the Redwings, so those are what I got. Haven't looked back, but Royers are nice as well. Too many people wear cheap work boots and I don't understand it. I don't want sore feet at the end of a long day.
