Borat Got a Beating!

I mean this is what it's about really...some basic guy from a third world country that holds all his views up for the world to see unintentionally because he's been trained to think that way AND THEN ramming it down people's throats becaus he can't see things have changed.

But he's a university-educated comedy performer from a privileged background - these aren't his views in any way - and the character he portrays, is not believable in any way -at least not to anyone with the slightest amount of common sense or awareness of the world around them!

To me the way it's presented isn't so offensive (leaving all Jew humor out)...it's acting stupid. and these days if you can be stupider than the stupid person, you win.

I didn't find the Jewish thing offensive at all - but pandering to the lowest common denominator, when you have had a privileged educational background is at least verging on hypocrisy and is certainly patronising your audience...:hmm:

a film is a film, and with that film come characters. Your education (referring to his education) means approximately dick in relation to the character with the exception of the fact your going to understand the character more thoroughly. So some guy with a degree wants to get on a film and pretend he's a news reporter from a third world country and look like a pompous @$$ sharing his views (character views). i personally applaud that.

Its interesting that something so slapstick and lowbrow (albeit with some overtones of Satire and political commentary) is generating such serious, seemingly-dour, discussion.

People who are against this movie are essentially saying that this movie is a mis-representation of multiple cultures, and that the type of behaviour "promoted" in the movie is essentially yet another step towards the lowest common denominator, both intellectually and culturally. On the other side of the equation are all the kids who think that this movie is the funniest thing they've seen since Jackass, and that it's pure satire, and (hopefully) realize that everything in the movie is so blown out or proportion that it just HAS to be fake.

What scares the first group of people (myself included), is that we think that some people from the second group don't realize that it is THAT fake, and that the "gross-out shock" element is so popular that cleverness and subtelty will eventually completely disappear.

I think Borat is damn funny. So are Baron Cohen's other characters. The movie had me laughing like crazy. I suppose my sense of humour is not very sophisticated...

Also, the Sun is known for blowing things out of proportion. You can tell what the target market is when you take a look at page three: a chick with her boobies out.

Great success!

Actually, the funny thing is that this thread isn't about the movie, it is about Borat getting beat up for trying to be funny.

There was a separate thread for the movie itself.

Well - because it is disappointing that Cohen, who was initially a very clever satirist who addressed dangerous and challenging topics like Child Abuse in the Catholic Church, has sunk so low! :(

It's like - I'll throw in anything, as long as it makes me money - very sad!

I think you have this exactly the wrong way round - so kids are laughing at the gross-out humour they find in other movies - while completely ignoring the political comment on America, which is the supposed "justification" - but which critics find very weak and not a patch on what Cohen has done previously!

So - by dumbing-down, he seems to have gained a much wider audience - which is very sad! :(

Sorry, I read my post and realized I mistyped. What I meant to say was that when I think about Baudelaire and Antonin Artaud (and a lot of other brilliant french authors), I forgive the French for all the rest of the silly things they do!!!!

The silliest thing they did was give you the Statue of Liberty.
