Borat Got a Beating!

If thats your honest opinion you've got issues to work on ;)

I've got issues?

So Borat ridicules Eastern Europe and presents the image that it's even worse than it is (having friends who used to live there, I'm quite aware it's not all that great, so to speak) and bringing it's flaws to the focus of the entire world, and I'm being accused of having issues?

I see.

Don't worry, know one listens to the French anyways.:hiding:

Borat, the fake news guy from the Ali G show and star of his new movie, got beaten by a passer-by in New York City the other day.
Apparently he decided to say something stupid (while in character of course) to a stranger on the streets of Manhattan...this guy's smart.

Personally, I'm glad this happened. I can't stand that guy.
i think these days this generation needs a movie offensive enough to show how rediculous we've become in the last 20 years

well, borat retelling how his prostitute sister mocks his "dufus brother" isn't really that funny, or redeeming. the fact the the "humor expert" is telling him that it's not funny is. Especially when the entire audience is doubled over in laughter.

there's a lot of shock based stuff in the movie, and while some love that kind of thing, some hate it.

Your opinions on the eastern culture is yours to keep, but hinting that they shouldn't be taken seriously is something which, I would have thought, Americans knew not to do.

Obviously you're as stubborn as they come, and that sure isn't changing.

I entirely agree that things aren't too great, but turning it to ridicule will certainly not make things any better for either side.

Well - you've got it completely wrong - so Borat is not about ridiculing eastern Europe - you have missed the point so completely, that you are in danger of becoming the butt of his joke!! :eyebrow:

Borat is ridiculing a few stupid Americans for being so insular and racist that they are not aware that his character is completely false and unbelievable!

Now when Cohen was playing Ali G and was talking to Catholic Priests about Child Abuse being institutional in the Catholic Church - that was clever, that was challenging!

But telling us that there are a few stupid people in the US who have no idea of anything going on outside their town, is not! :hmm:

There is some truth in that Cohen is holidng up a mirror and saying : "look how low you've sunk.."

But I don't need a film to tell me this and I don't need somebody who had a priviliged upbringing, went to private schools and Cambridge University - being patronising to all those stoopid people!! :hmm:

That's too offensive to me...as in : I can be more ironic than you plebs can possibly grasp - :hmm:

If that is truly his goal, then I take back my earlier comments.

Well - I think originally his goal was to show up hypocricy - but with Borat, I am pretty sure his only goal is to make money!! :hmm:

But of course the ostensible point of the film is showing how stupid and insular Americans are, or he wouldn't have set the film in America - so the main criticism I have read from UK journalists, is that it's more of the same, but this time he has picked soft(er) targets and pandered to a teenage gross-out mentality ! :hmm:

I havent seen the movie, though I've heard about quite alot these past few days. I won't spend money to go see it probably, but I'm not really surprised his goal is to make money and target the teenage gross-out mentality as you put it. Either way, it doesn't seem like a really fun movie to see...

yea well, that's your opinion.
just it feels like as stupid as it is, that there are ALOT of people that think that way of other countries. Why NOT push the envelope and go even farther they expected (making it clear they are joking of course) so make people realize just how dumb they are? I mean this is what it's about really...some basic guy from a third world country that holds all his views up for the world to see unintentionally because he's been trained to think that way AND THEN ramming it down people's throats becaus he can't see things have changed. To me the way it's presented isn't so offensive (leaving all Jew humor out)...it's acting stupid. and these days if you can be stupider than the stupid person, you win.
on a side note, took my gf to see it. She loved me for it
