Borat Got a Beating!

As far as Borat misrepresenting the 'majority' of Americans, I hate to say, but ignorance FAR outweighs Knowledge and Wisdom in this country. More obvious in the Midwest. And the ranks of 'culturally' aware and universally-minded people in this country is a MINORITY.

Sorry, not solely an American phenomenon. I've traveled quite a bit and find that this is a fact everywhere.

Education and cultural experience reduces ingnorance and prejudice. Most of the world, even in highly developed and civilized societies, is not fortunate enough to receive higher education and exposure to different cultures and ways.

That said, I do think that Europeans' close proximity to different countries and cultures gives them a leg up on the rest of the world regarding cultural experience.

Keep in mind that on TB, the sarcasm font automatically clicks on before you begin to post. Happens all the time here.
:D No worries.

Are you offended ?

Um, no.

I don't figure how a country in Asia that gets colonised by another country (that is partly in Europe, but mostly in Asia) gets to switch continents.

That's like saying Zimbabwe is in Europe because it was once a colony state of Britain.

Like the other poster said, this really is a problem that is not local to the US. There are ignorant people on every corner of the globe.

I never said that Kazakhstan was in Europe.
I know that Kazakhstan is in southern Asia.

Well you sure as hell confused me :D

When you answered my question:

How long has Kazakhstan been in Europe?

Kazakhstan is along the southern border of Russia and was conquered by Russia in the 18th century becoming a Soviet Republic in 1936.
I thought you were saying that it became part of Europe when it became a Soviet Republic in 1936.

I need to lie down. :)

s

i think that the borat film was located in romania which is acctually part of eastern europe.

asia is massive and this area we talk about is in that crossover between the east and the west...there is no magic line that divides ...maybe the slavic race i suppose.

Nuthin but love for the Southland. By the way, I think its our culture that is toxic and resorts people to fragmented, ill-reasoned points of views. And that includes everybody, including myself. I know that everytime I've gotten to know people of other cultures, I am always amazed at my own ignorgance in certain matters. That, and sometimes those who are more economically privledged know LESS than they should about the world around them.

Oh, and the South to this day is not the most racially sensitive area in this country, and thats been true way before Borat's movie came out.

Never said it was jack.

True statement. Wonder why there's so many fanatics willing to give up their lives?

That said, I do think that Europeans' close proximity to different countries and cultures gives them a leg up on the rest of the world regarding cultural experience.

I've found this to be very true, but that doesn't indicate a more enlightened view point to me. I just hope I have the strength not judge those I meet before trying to examine THEIR point of view first. Scampering off to a foreign country is not an indicator.
