I really like the Octave effect in Poly Mode. Tracks perfectly.

This might sound dumb but I’ll share it. I’ve been playing around with the Pitch Shifter effect to get -1 and -2 down turning. I kept hearing this annoying and unwanted chorus effect coming through. There was a short discussion about it a while ago. Well I figured out what it was. When I’m dialling in my settings, I have my monitor level pretty low, maybe a bit louder than the bass played acoustically. So the unwanted chorus effect was the monitor sound and the acoustic bass sound combined, with the monitor sound pitch shifted -2. And it just so happens, that’s how chorus effect works. So now I practice with headphones to make sure I’m hearing thing’s accurately. The problem was really driving me up the wall. LOL.

I’ve done the same comparison, and I quite agree! I think the Core’s non-bass Octave sounds even closer to my 2 OC-2s (both MIJ, one is Octave, the other Octaver) than the bass version. The Core behaves quite like the originals, it sounds maybe just a tiny bit less dirty and hairy, slightly less chaotic.

The difference is so small you’d need to listen for it with good quality headphones or studio monitors. In a band context it is nonexistent.
Do you have a recording full band example of an oc2 being glitchy and chaotic? I’ve yet to hear that characteristic when people use it though I know that’s a common descriptor and a desired trait when people praise the oc2.

No, I don’t have a recording at the moment. And I’m not using it the ”TB Standard” way (-1 Oct full, everything else off), I keep Direct fully up and -1 Oct between 1 and 2 o’clock. To me, it is not about the glitchiness either, I just love what the OC-2 does to my fretless - the added thickness and analogue synth -style warmth - and try to play it quite cleanly.

The way I’m using it, it seems there is just a tiny little difference, and honestly, I don’t think I could hear it in a blind test.

After going down the rabbit hole with pedals, I feel this about most pieces of gear. Yah, a muff is different than a light overdrive, but the cork sniffing between different muffs is pointless.

I have the OC5 but I’ve found it to track significantly better than the GT on bass.

The GT one is barely useable for me with my main bass, i don’t think it handles bright clanky strings as gracefully. I had no issues with my other bass which was set up for less aggressive clanky sounds though.

Have to apologize. I think I found the problem with the buzz and noise. I've uploaded an updated version if you want to try it out. Just set the Output Level on the GTCore to 50%. Hopefully it will sound better. Cheers.

Bass Liveset v2.1 - BOSS TONE EXCHANGE

Excellent point. I didnt check the input level, its a passive bass.

I broke out my oc2 (Japanese octaver version) and compared it to the bass octave in the core. I gotta say, the cores version sounds great. Has that huge dub bass feel when you pull direct out. Not to say I’ll bail on my oc2 but I don’t have a reason to put it on my board.

Have to check the Boss GT1 octaver again. Last time I tried it my impression was that it had much much sub lows and didn’t sound as synthy as the OC2. But have to check again.

You should be able to reinstall Tone Studio and the driver for Mac.

I have no idea when that happened. Haven’t used in a few months.
Is there no working driver for OSX 10.12 anymore?

I just did this. Intstalled the latest version of Tone Studio and the driver 1.0.0 but it still doesn't find my GT-1000 CORE. Also installed the latest GT1000core update on the unit itself. It finds my Steinberger interface and my Roland keyboard strange enough, but I don't need that. It was always working before and I didn't change anything in my setup or on the GT.

EDIT: stupid me!!!! I am on OSX12.6 not 10.12 and installed the wrong driver today. But like i say it was working before. So people with OSX12 might have to reinstall the driver, maybe good to know for some people....

Just check the GT1000 core octaver again. I think in general it doesn't sound like the Boss OC-2. The OC-2 sounds more synthy and special. Also I think the 'octave' algo sounds better bass than the 'oct bass' algo. The oct bass has too much sub lows in the -1 octave. I think an octaver sounds better with an octave sound with not too much lows. Pushes better through the mix and you don't need all those lows. Tracking is about the same as with the OC-2, below the low D (octave lower than the D string) is starts getting a bit glitchy, especially on longer notes.
