Boss GT 1000/Core doesn't have an on/off switch. Its a query that's been discussed on FaceBook Forums, and unless I'm as a bat I can't see it. So there's a good solution for an on/off switch available at Sparkfun. It's called a Barrel Jack Power Switch MF 3".

Do you also notice some tone suck from the GT1000 (core)?
It sounds better when I plug in directly to amp or mixer (without GT1000) than when I plug my bass in the mono input and then the mono output to my amp. That is with all effects in the Boss off. It cuts some lows and adds a bit of high I think. Do you also notice this? Is there something that’s causing this?

I got a new RME UCX II audio interface recently which comes with a powerful audio measurement software called DIGICheck. The image below is the spectrum analyser in DIGICheck.

This patch I have a HPF/LPF engaged on the GTCore.

I'm not seeing any tone suck when the GTCore effects are switched off, and as you can see, the Effects Bypassed and the Direct Signal - J 48 are almost identical. I can't explain what you're experiencing. Furthermore, tone suck is pretty subjective. Even playing style can effect tone. Could be you don't like the GTCore? Which is understandable. A lot people don't connect with this unit.

Thanks. I like the GT core that’s not the point. Also it doesn’t have to do with playing style cause I play the exact same thing each time.

I was visiting a friend yesterday who als owns the Core. And out of the blue (without me mentioning it) he said the exact same thing, that it sounded better when he plugged straight in his amp than with the GT in between (with all effect off).

I am just wondering if more people are experiencing this?

Maybe it’s not completely true bypass with all effects off?

Sometimes people confuse louder with better. I wonder if you could adjust the volume of the core to match that of your amp only set up? Maybe also plug core directly into the effects return?

Is it possible that the tone suck has to do with the output block settings? Line/mixer etc. ?

Or is the cab simulation always on even with all effects/amps off?

Or is there another block that’s always on or working in the background by default even when bypassed?

Did you check the Master EQ?
In/Out Settings?
I set mine for "line/phones"

-> page 44 of the manual

Yes I checked it, global EQ is default I think. Not totally sure what the default setting are?
And had set out to "recording', because I plug it in my soundcard most of the time. But I can hear no difference when setting it to "line/phones. I am not sure if the GT1000 is true bass? and with all effects bypassed if its still true bypass?

I don't think the unit is tought of having a "Bypass" sound..... as there is no "Bypass" switch.

I have my GT1000Core in the switchable parallel loop of my RMI/Lehle Basswitch (+-90% wet/; 10% dry). My master eq is not linear at all, I am using hpf and lpf on purpose in order to cut unwanted or "unnecessary" ultra high end and ultra low end.

When I want a "core-less" sound I just switch the loop of. So I can't really comment on the "Bypass" sound.

I'm soon to be back in the GT1000core club, it's been nice exploring other pastures but I think (for me) the GT1000core is the perfect multi for my needs.

Looking forward to getting it all re-integrated and trying to find room for it all on my board again!

One thing I was wondering, currently have an vol/expression pedal which I use to dip the volume in one song which is a real waste of space. Is there away to gradually reduce volume via a footswitch press on the Core rather than it being instant?

In theory you could, using an assignment and using an 'internal pedal' as the source. You can set time and curve.

As for tonesuck, I put mine on

Excellent, I'm looking forward to trawling through those menus and experimenting again, especially now I know what I'm after :D

not sure what happened there but was meaning to write that I tried my GT1000core in a loop switcher and didn’t notice any issues when I set the levels right, it sounded identical to my ears bypassed or in the chain.

Yeah I think it’s the perfect combo with the GT1000core. The wiring is a bit crazy but awesome to be able to pop fx where I want in the chain.

I can plug my guitar in and have a patch which completely bypasses the preamp stage of the Capo too while still getting the clean pre and effected post DI signals.

The only limitation really is that I can’t inject any effects between the Alma comp, OC5, GNP or Halberd as the all sit in the fx loop 1 of the CORE. Other than that I can put fx where I want which is cool.
