Boss GT-10B (part 2)

And I think there is level adjustments in the send/return also but I could be mistaken, it's been a while since I looked at it. Also download Gumtown's floorboard, it makes it much easier to adjust the pedal.
Hey Gumtown, is there any way that you can update the floorboard to incorporate the EZ Tone feature? I've been using EZ Tone a lot lately and it sure would be nice to be able to control that feature from my laptop or my iPad.
I've been playing about 25 years and I'm thinking about getting into effects...I played a couple of darkglass and source audio pedals yesterday and was pretty much floored...I have pretty much come to the conclusion that I could chain a couple of these pedals together and be just about done with all the weirdness I could possibly think of, but I came across a gt-10b on craigslist for a good deal, and I thought it would be a really good place to start thinking maybe I could add on a couple of the source audio pedals and a darkglass vintage deluxe...I thought the hot hand feature was totally nuts and I thought it would be something really fun to mess around with...anyway, I'm sure I will probably get a biased opinion on this thread, and that's ok, but is the gt-10b still a really viable place to start? I'm looking at a zoom b3, too, which is the same price I would be able to pick up the gt-10b for...ultimately, for the moment, I'm looking to build some patches to play some type o negative songs...peter steele used a handful of boss pedals exclusively, so I thought at the very least I could nail something really close with the gt-10b...anyway, I'm rambling...as usual
I think you will find the GT-10B has far more features than the B3,
as well as many effects, the GT-10B has a complex array of parameter controllers (Assigns) allowing LFO's or picking dynamics to control most effect parameters in realtime.
The Assigns can also be triggered by other events such as patch change, pedal control or Expression pedal position, as well as external midi control.

Bit of an aside here, but somewhere earlier in this thread, someone was having a problem with a very loud hiss from the XLR outputs. At that time, I was one of the people who responded and said mine was fine. That is no longer the case. The XLR out is so noisy as to be useless at this point. 
Have you tried cleaning it with contact cleaner. Just curious (and don't want to scare you), but did you have it plugged in to a board sending phantom power into the unit's xlr?

As far as I know, it didn't get any phantom power but can't be certain. While it was well established that these guys would not enjoy being juiced by phantoms, I don't recall what, specifically, would be the outcome of such an encounter.
Anywho, it is what it is now.
Too bad, though, as I love the idea of a built in DI on a multi FX board.

Quick question for the experts. I'm using gumtown's floorboard software. I can't seem to be able to make the assigns do what I want them to do.
I have started a patch from scratch. I want it clean, when I hit ctl2 I want a chorus and an overdrive on ctl2. Tuner on when stomping the patch pedal again. Simple enough right?
At the moment ctl1 is assigned to switch from channel A to B (it's set to single channel), and ctl2 engages the tuner.
By using the assigns, I can get them to turn on the effects I want, but they don't "forget" the previous assign, so the channel still switches and it turns on the chorus, but I can't hear the chorus because I'm set to single channel.
And with ctl2, the OD turns on, but since it also turns on the tuner, all I get is bypassed sound.

Select the "Pedal/Wah" page and check the CTL pedal Function settings.
You will find they are set to do as you find happening (channel A/B and Tuner), set CTL 2 pedal to "LED Toggle" so the CTL 2 pedal led will show when the effects are 'on'.

and now my adventure with this thing begins...just picked one up on the local craigslist for a great deal, manual, original box/packaging, the whole bit...the guy I bought it off of hadn't touched it in a while, but he seemed to know his way around it...tomorrow, I'm going to try to build a clean and dirty type o negative patch...I'm pretty clear on peter steele's signal chain and settings, can't wait to try and get something really close...excited! not about going through that 150 page manual though
I just downloaded floorboard and the driver onto the old pooter...taking the manual to work with me today and looking forward to figuring something out when I get home...I just sat there gawking at the floorboard program...I owe you one, gumtown
The first thing that you need to do is go inside of settings - input/output and turn the Rev level to 0%. It's a global reverb and can really muddy things up where It's set from the factory.
