Boss GT-10B

wow! I just downloaded the software and linked it to my gt-10b. I have to stop now or I'll be awake all night. I'll have to reread this thread again and find all the great tricks. Another reason I love this place. thanks so much. Marry me gumtown!!!!

Yeah, but only if you be the bitch;)

BTW: you can use the GT-10 guitar version patches in this too, it will load GT-10 patches and convert the preamps & stuff to a GT-10B equivalent.
An it can load GT-6B patches too...

Probably the most powerful feature yet is the Bulk Patch Editing, where a nice setting of an effect part, be it a favourite preamp or a neat assign trick, can be replicated across many pre-selected patches in one operation.

Possum:

When I first got started with the 10B, there was something that mucked me up for the longest time, so I'm gonna share it here in the hope that it will save you some grief.
When it comes to assigning functions to the control pedals (CTRL 1&2), there are 2 different assign sections . (I may be not be using the correct terminology.) But, anyway, there are what I'll call a "primary assign" and then several "secondary assigns". So, what I call the primary assign is accessed by double clicking the pedal module (see the red arrow below).

And, then, the secondary assigns are accessed by clicking the tabs circled in red below.

In my experience, I would set these "secondary assigns" the way I wanted them, but would then be dumb-founded when I stepped on the CTRL pedal and some additional parameter would change.

thank you so much for the tip dug dog. that helps a lot.

and to add further confusion, there is a third option to control the GT-10B pedals. In the SYSTEM area, is a Pedal Global control, which is little known about, and overrides the other two Pedal settings places.
This is if you want a pedal to operate with the same function across ALL PATCHES.

I've spent 4 hours with this tonight and holy gosh it makes things so much easier. you should be on the design team for the next model gumtownbassman. Is there anyway that you can switch to manual mode other than reaching down and pressing the display screen?
thanks again guys

any of the assignable pedals can be set to switch 'to' manual mode, once in manual mode, the pedal is in manual mode and does not switch back (bwhaahaa).
Unless you use extra CTL3 or CTL4 pedals.

Another cool trick is to use the INPUT LEVEL in the assigns, so that the GT-10B is in patch mode normally, and when you start playing, it switches to manual mode automatically, and switches back to patch mode when you stop playing.

Of coarse this needs to be set with each patch, but with the new GT-10BFxFloorBoard "Bulk Patch Write" feature, this can be set from one patch and replicated to as many patches as you want.

like this, i use an example of Assign 8, because some of your patches might use Assigns 1,2,3 for other stuff.

**********Assign 8***********

[On/Off] = On
[Target] = MANUAL: ManModeSw
[Min] = Off
[Max] = On
[Source] = Input Level
[Source Mode ] = Moment
[Act Rng Lo] = 0
[Act Rng Hi] = 127

I don't think this is quite accurate. If you were to assign NUM PED(al) (the pedal for the current selected patch) to manual mode, then when you wanted to exit manual mode, that pedal would be assigned to something else - and would not be functional to exit manual mode.

Manual mode only affects pedals 1-4, and the bank up and down pedals. So assigning ctrl1, ctrl2, the Exp. pedal sw., or some state of the expression pedal (fully raised, for e.g.) to manual mode (and of course ctrl's 3 & 4, like you wrote) works just peachy, since getting into manual mode doesn't change the function of those pedals.

Long story short: you can use, say, ctrl2 to get in and out of manual mode, no problem.

While this is a cool unit, I really don't think the bypass tone is flat. I'm using a pretty high end system (Fodera Emperor or Imperial going to a Sadowsky SA200 with Sadowsky 410 cab) and the tone straight into the amp is significantly better than the tone through bypass/tuner to my ears. In a mix, I doubt I'd notice it, but solowise (my usual mode of playing), I definitely hear a difference. Tone loses a bit of clarity and sparkle, and sounds duller for sure.

thanks so much moles! that was exactly what I was trying to do!

hi guys
I have two quick questions I hope y'all can help me with.
Q1. I've got a patch that I'm trying to use the Hold effect with. I assigned it to Ctr 1. and the this will turn FX1 on and off. When the Hold effect is turned on there is a Hold switch to the left in the display that needs to be toggled On for the effect to work. I can't toggle it on unless I do this manually. How can I do it with the pedals.

Q2. In the floorboard editor how do I arrange patches in the order that I want to?

thanks for all the help y'all have given me on the this great device.

A.1) Possibly leaving the FX1 on all the time and using an Assign like this

**********Assign 1***********

[On/Off] = On
[Target] = FX1: SH Hold
[Min] = Off
[Max] = On
[Source] = CTRL 1 PDL
[Source Mode ] = Toggle
[Act Rng Lo] = 0
[Act Rng Hi] = 127

So that CTL1 pedal operates the Hold switch..
I have never had much success with this effect myself, i find the sample time too short.

A.2) Probably best to use the Boss GT-10B Librarian for re-arranging patches in the GT-10B, FxFloorBoard and Boss Librarian can quite happily operate together.
Otherwise you will have to manually copy each patch into FxFloorBoard and write it to a new location, no full Library support yet since the Boss Librarian does that job anyway.

I have been looking to get a all in one effects unit for a while & have researched & tried out most of them on the market.

After much debating I decided it would either be a GT-6b or 10b.
I had access to both to try out ... here is my humble observation.

Based on what I read here in the TB forum I expected it to be a headache to program these things ... I was surprised ... both GT units are "very" easy to program ... I don't understand why people have trouble. ... I think a lot of people are just to lazy to read "simple" instructions"

The "assign" function makes these things stunningly configurable
it astounds me how many separate effects I can control in "one" patch ... its like having a pedalboard full of stomp boxes .. crazy ... or actually its more like a pedalboard full of pedalboards!

I found neither unit "steals" tone any more than any other stomp box if set up correctly.

The 10b is most decidedly more advance but its only in a few "key" areas its not that much different than the 6b ... it is
"phat" though.

Ironically one GT-6b feature I thought I would never use at first glance is "auto slap" ... this is way more powerful than I thought it was ... they should have named it something else , auto slap is pretty lame.

I actually like the GT-6B better than the 10b for my situation because a lot of the new stuff is nothing I care about (USB) or not enough better to warrant the difference it cash, plus they changed or removed a few things I like about the 6B.

I found a great deal on a spotless GT-6b here on TB & It fits perfectly in my current 3 piece band situation ... I love the thing .. both units are pretty amazing I don't think you can go wrong with either one.
