Boss GT-10B

Moles was correct, I simply had to calibrate the pedal switch and lower the threshold. Previously the switch was effectively non-functional due to high threshold.

As a workaround I connected a small 2 button momentary footswitch I built for use with my BOSS SE-70 to the CTRL3/4 jack and was using that. I might still do that, but I like the EXP SW as it has a nice LED to remind me it's engaged where my DIY footswitch has none. Overall, I personally prefer a dedicated system tuner button that's hard to accidentally engage.

QUESTION: Does anyone have suggestions for bending the GT-10B to provide a Moog-like beat synced low pass filter? Ideally with adjustable cutoff/resonance/waveform.
Without listening to an example to model from, i will extract info from what you have described.

You will need to approach this with a modular concept, and build the sound in sections.

"Beat Sync'd LPF" There are a few ways to get the tempo set, from an external midi device such as a drum machine or sequencer. But you will most likely manually set the tempo using a GT-10B pedal, CTL2 is a good one. That part is easy, from Pedal/Fx set CTL2 control to 'TAP BPM'. this will allow foot-tapping to set the patch master BPM for all time based effects.

Assigns are your friends, this is one of the most powerful features of the GT-10B, we can use the tapped BPM to control an internal oscillator found in the assigns called Wave Pedal. Set an Assign to control an effect parameter, typically it could be Wah pedal position, or parametric EQ frequency, and set the Source to Wave Pedal, and source mode to moment.
Set the Wave Pedal time to a BPM setting, typically 1/4 note, and set your prefered wave form envelope that the wave pedal event will follow, typically triangle.
For an alternative i have used Input Sensitivity as a Assign controller on some effects, where the time speeds up as you pick harder.

With this lot activated you will get an oscillating filter, then use assigns to control things like filter frequency offset or resonance to the Expression pedal.
You can use 8 assigns per patch, so you can make some pretty freaky sounds with some imagination.
You don't have to stick to "typical analog' ways of thinking, like using the EQ effect as a Wah with the frequency swept with the EXP pedal.

The manual is so enormous I hadn't made it to the assigns section. I've been using assigns, I just wasn't aware of the Wave Pedal which does in fact provide beat synced LFO. I'll have to experiment with that controlling various effects to see if any of them can provide a low pass filter. Most of the wahs are a little weak, probably bandpass which is typical for wahs. The Moog MF-101 is a resonant low pass filter with cutoff frequency and resonance controls. The GT-10B certainly provides the assigns/controls, I just need to find an appropriate filter.

Peeling back the layers of the onion one layer at a time! :)
 
A few sections of interest for a LPF would be the parametric EQ, where the High Cut can go down to 700Hz
and the Dual Channel split point where you can set the channel mode to Frequency Divide and use the low pass route down to 100Hz.
Try some of the Custom Wah's which have user settable filter responses, FX1/2 has Sub Wah in each,
FX1/2 2x2 Chorus has a Filter crossover down to 100Hz,
and the MultiBand compressor has a 3 way crossover which might yeild some interesting low end compression.
 
I've played with the Reso Wah but not the custom wahs. It sounds OK if you just use distortion/fuzz in front, but isn't thick and peaky enough to filter anything too extreme. I'm doubtful any of the other things you suggested will provide good results as they're just blind cuts, not resonant and characteristic filters. My last thought will be to try some static (no rate) phasers as they can get very peaky and thick sounding.

Here is a post i did in the bass synths section a little while ago, i thought it maybe of some interest, excuse the playing, i was only demostrating the effects only and sitting in a rather uncomfortable position..

Here is another recording using the Roland GR-20 synth with a GK-3B attached to my jazz V, and the GR-20 synth modulated by the GT-10B by using the dry bass signal to the GT-10B input, mixed with the GR-20 synth output into the GT-10B S/R loop Return to the GT-10B channel B, and using some of the leftover effects not used from channel A.
It's just noodling over my first 25 patches.

While your at it, why not also try the Synth, with the Wave pedal triggering the cutoff frequency?
 
Couple quick photos of the GT-10B in two different pedal board cases. Just sharing in case you're in the market for either.

Rondo hard case. Fits well, cables can all plug in without restriction though there's not enough room to leave straight ended cables permanently connected, room left for some other small pedals if you need. Or stick some foam there so the GT-10B doesn't slide around in the case.

Gator Gig Box. Plenty of room for the GT-10B and other stuff, too. I can just about fit a M9 sideways, plus my 2 button footswitch. I'd need some non-straight MIDI cables to let me push the M9 closer to the GT-10B in order to leave it permanently connected and still fit the lid.

I was hoping to find an assign where I can assign the EXP PDL to sweep between beat divisions of the LFO but that doesn't seem possible from what I can see. There's no assigns available to control WAVE PDL parameters.

Fishing for your thoughts.

At least when using the GT-10B manually, without the floorboard software, this does not seem possible. The manual doesn't mention it, I've tried a variety of channel options and the FX Chain never provides anything other than the ability to MOVE effects around in the chains, but not copy them.

I will start with the easy question, there is only one instance of each effect block, so for FX1, there is one of those with which you can choose any one effect from with-in it. I think the Factal Audio Axe FX is the only MFX which can generate mutliple instances of the same effect.
What you see in the chain is what you get, all you can do is move around the chain order.

I can't properly answer this right now (at work) but i think if you set the Wave Pedal Rate to a BPM rather than a fixed value (such as quater note) then use another assign to set the Tap BPM, so tapping a CTL pedal could change the BPM and then also change the Wave Pedal Rate. Or the Master BPM assigned to the EXP pedal maybe?
 
Best I could come up with was bopping between patches that differ in the beat division of the WAVE PDL. Or, if possible with the patch, bop between two channels where each has a different WAVE PDL assign with different beat divisions, though it'd require using FX1 in Channel A and FX2 in Channel B thus eat up all the free FX1/2 options.

But I couldn't come up with any other easy and fast way to effectively toggle between two beat divisions of the LFO. Since WAVE PDL is buried as an assign you have no way to further control it in real time. Your suggestion of BPM manipulation is a possibility, but not likely fast or precise enough.
 
I tried the assigns last night, first with the EXP pedal assigned to Master BPM, and also i assigned CTL2 as Tapped BPM, so the led on the pedal flashed at the rate changed by the EXP pedal.
I then assigned multiple effects to have wave pedal assigned to the filter or BPM related parts. The Wave pedal rate was set to 'eighth note', and the source is 'wave pedal', and source mode needs to be 'moment'.

I used this on Bass Wah 'pedal position', phaser rate, synth cutoff filter, chorus stereo1 rate, Dual L/R delay times with one on 'eigth note' and the other on 'eigth note dotted'.

It all produced an interesting variable LFO effect.
I also tried it on the Slicer, vibrato, flanger, EQ mid Gain, distortion drive.
