Boss GT-10B

I am running a simple setup with my GT10B. I front my Ampeg with the GT10B and have a bypass patch and a whole bunch of effects only patches without preamps. Works pretty good. My question is, because I front the ampeg head the DI on the head has some effects when I use them. So I use the GT10B in effects/direct mode and use the direct side to the house. Problem is I cant mute the Direct side to do guitar changes and tuning. Any Ideas?

Not really much to add to gumtownbassman's post... :bassist:

...however, I'll put in my two cents:

The GT-10B is versatile, programmable, usable in a very wide variety of situations, has a dependable construction (after a year of heavy abuse, playing live, and various inadequate ways of packing/transporting it, mine is still as good and functional as new, except for a couple of scratches here and there), and in general a good unit.

Drawbacks (I mentioned these earlier, but let me spare you from searching) are in short:
It is not entirely correct what gumtownbassman said about globally turning off the speaker simulators. If you select an output other than line, the speaker simulators will remain active, but with an adjusted frequency response to that of the selected output device. The idea behind that is to retain the basic character of the selected (simulated) speaker cabinet, but through the selected device. Example: you have an 8x10 simulation, that sounds like an 8x10 in line output, but once you switch the output to "amp-no horn" it will make your (for instance) 1x15 combo cabinet somewhat "8x10"-ish. So it does something but not exactly what it does when line is selected. It is basically a global adjustment EQ (there is actually one feature called like this, however right now I am not rerferring to it) depending on the selected output. Quite simple, dumb-proof, user friendly idea, but whether it is actually a good approach or not, it's upon you to decide for yourself.
However, it is possible to turn off (or do pretty much anything) with the speaker simulators per patch. (The problem I was referring to concerns ways of shutting the simulator off GLOBALLY)

The major drawback, and I keep telling this all the time, is the bass-synth. It is far the worst BOSS has ever come out with, and probably one of the worst ever in general. It is basically completely useless, unless you're in search for some fuzzy fart-like sounds.
I use a SYB-5 hooked up in the FX loop for the synths (prior to that I'd been using an ME-6B, but the SYB is considerably smaller) and it is the best solution I could come up so far to achieve a decent synth sound.

I am using it direct to power amp (as a monitor onstage), and through the DI to the FOH PA at the same time. It's perfect for the purpose. It even allows me to change the volume of the regular output but without affecting the level of the DI out, as these two are independant.

Cheers! :bassist:

The only two answers i can think of are ..
1) Use the GT-10B DI in stereo L/R mode, and use the dual channels in DUAL L/R mode, with no effects on the left side (or maybe the preamp if going to P.A.) and place the effects only in the right channel, sending that to your stage amp.
This will allow the Tuner mute to work both channels.

2) i replaced my bass lead plug with one of those ones with a built in kill switch. (which can catch you out sometimes).

You can use dropbox.com! Just put the files in the public folder and then you just have to give us the links.

I will record some samples to.
:)

Or get a SoundClick account, or a free MySpace or ReverbNation page just for hosting your effects testing MP3. Lots of free options for sharing. PM me if you need help. I'm itching to hear more people's sounds from this thing.

Or, as you pointed out, just get Gumtown's floorboard editor and share your patches. Then we can try them out here. But even then the sound samples are helpful.

There's dozens of TalkBass users with one of these, yet really nobody shares any patches. Don't be shy! We're not going to rake you over the coals if we don't like them.

Somewhere in here I posted some "arpeggio synth" patches and sound samples. Totally unusable since you cannot control the LFO start of the Wave Pdl, but very cool and unique sounding. I shared in hopes of sparking some super clever ideas of how to really utilize the Wave Pdl for some arpeggio stuff.

Hey there, I have owned the GT10 for a couple of years now. I use it to diversify my solo performances. I thought you might be interested in hearing some of the weirder possibilities with this machine.

This one uses the harmonizer and delay...

This machine is capable of much more, but I don't have videos of that stuff yet.

Hope this gives you ideas. :)

This one is a delay that I set up to be controlled by the expression pedal so I could manipulate the parameters with my foot...

Here is just a simple stereo chorus and some reverb...

And here is one with reverb and chorus, but the chorus is hooked up to the expression pedal so you can fade it in and out at the times you want. I use it as a climax...

Cool! You are using the guitar version..

Show us more things you and the GT-10 can do!

Grant so glad you joined this thread, its the guy who called you Greg for a while :D I gave you a shout out pages back as the one other guy I knew who uses the regular GT-10 for bass.

Thanks for sharing, I haven't had the opportunity to use the GT-10 to some of its capabilities on bass, but on guitar i have pushed the cpu on many occasions, one thing I love to do is lay down some really lush swells with the tape delay and strong reverb, maybe modulated, with the looper, then switch to a regular patch or whatever and play the song. The whole time with the nice swelled pad in the background, works great if there is no keyboard player and the song calls for a pad or some texture. I have never successfully gotten a lush pad sound with the bass yet, tried a few times.

been drooling for a GT-10B for quit some time and today I decided to plunk down some $ and some trade ins and got one coming :D

dl'ed gumtownbassman's software and patiently waiting :bassist:

You will not regret this! The GT-10B it's an amazing multifx. You have all the configurations you'll ever need, and the gumtown software make it even easier to tweak.

You can store and trade patches. You cand do whatever you want with your sound..

And please, make a review of you unit! i love to hear from floks that are amazed like i am.

Gt-10B all the way!!

I don't think I can find the time to record anything soon, so here's the settings I use to create an adequate Moog Taurus sound (imho)

Everything else except the stuff below is off, no pre-amp, no distortion, no reverb, no noise things, no compression.
I do use compression, but not the one from the GT 10B.

Hi all.

I am new to the GT-10B

I read thru many posts in here but I didn't find an answer to my question. I apologise if it has been answered before.

Q1: Is there a way to make the LEDs on the CTRL1/2 pedals show their status (on/off)?
I know i can see what FX is on, but wenn I have FX1 on CTRL1 and FX2 on CTRL2 I can hardly see the difference since the LEDs are so close, but if the LEDs of the CTRL pedals buld be lit, I could see the status also from far away.

Q2: is there a way to make the control of the CTRL pedals "ablolute"? Example:
I'd like to have on CTL1 on = FX1 and CHO both on "on"
And then on CTRL2 on = FX2 and CHO both on.

So when CTRL1 *AND* CTRL2 are engaged I'd like to have FX1,FX2 *AND* CHO "on", but pressing the second CTRL switches the CHO "off"....

Basically I need 4 scenarios in one patch:

CTRL1 = off, CTRL2 = off
CTRL1 = on, CTRL2 = off -> (FX1 & CHO)
CTRL1 = off, CTRL2 = on -> (FX2 & CHO)
CTRL1 = on, CTRL2 = on -> (FX1, FX2 & CHO)

Can this be done?

Sorry for my english.
