Boss GT-10B

The GT-10B is way better than the GT-6B, with loads more effects, more control, better sounding COSM, (the GT-6B preamps were poo), but the synth is said to be a step backward in options, but with the GT-10B you get 2 synths,(and pretty much 2 of everything), plus the parallel effect chains.
Having said that, since i got the Roland GR-55, my GT-10B has been thrown in the outside "back room" of retired gear, i haven't looked at it for 2 months.

Sounds kool, I don't care for the synth too much myself. The modeled pre'amps are so-so on the 6b IMO usable but not wow me, I love the 3 band para EQ tho! Cab sim is ok for quiet gigs, and it did take me a while to learn how and where all the parameters are. the fact is the 6B's are going for 120-180 all day. I guess I'll have to go down to the guitcntr and try a 10B out, I'm interested in improving my sound quality.

After a few days tweaking the GT-10B, i manage to understand everything that this big unit does. It is amazing how much things can be configured!

I am falling in love with the modulation amps, and the manual mode: it's like having a real pedalboard with separated effects.

I have to try this in a gig. I need to.

Can anyone tell me how exactly to change the order of the effects chain on each patch? I can't seem to find the info in the manual....

Mucho props.

I'm sure the manual covers this.

* Select your patch
* Press Master/Pedal FX
* Arrow to Effects Chain
* Press Enter
* Arrow to the FX you want to move then use the rotary to move it around. Getting it from Channel A to Channel B can be confusing, but just keep moving it and eventually it'll go where you want
* You can also quickly access a specific FX by pressing it's hardware button which jumps you to it
* Don't forget to save

Editing with the hardware GUI isn't that difficult once you do it a few times, though the floorboard editor is certainly a lot easier since it's drag-n-drop and doesn't require nested menus as with the hardware GUI.

Can someone give me the spec of the myxomatosis bass from radiohead.. i almost nail it..

:)

This unit is insane!! i love it!!

I didn't know the song, so I listened to it....I suppose you are reffering to the sound that starts (and continues throughout the song?) that is clearly coming from a synth (keyboard) it will be impossible to copy exactly on the GT 10B because you can hear the sound is coming from more than 1 oscillator, the best way to try and come close to that is by using a slow chorus effect..

The GT-10B synth is the weak spot of the unit. The synth voices are weak and forced into a down-sweep with no ability to make them sweep up.

In that song you hear a up swept pitch/filter and VCA (volume) to give it that quick ramp-up sound and feel to the attack. You simply can't layer that many effects in the GT-10B, you'd need to use the bass synth into slow gear, into some gain/overdrive, into a blended octave to help give that second voice, and into some chorus. Maybe move the overdrive after the chorus. I won't sound like that song, and I don't think you can get that close to the sound.

However in a live setting just some sort of bassy synth sound is probably adequate.

I'm sorry, but I disagree, the Moog Taurus sound I have created does come close to that sound...in my opinion ofcourse. I use no distortion, only the synth section, delay and chorus. A while back I owned that Markbass Supersynth pedal, and even though that has a great synth section (3 oscillators) in a live band setting the difference was negligable.

Here are BOSS GT-10B synth patch clips from my personal synth patches. Note I use an OC-2 in the FX LOOP. It really darkens and thickens the synth sounds IMO. Probably need to roll off the sub-lows actually.

Do they sound synthy? I think so, I don't think it is obvious they're produced with a bass guitar and a single multieffects product. Do they sound super fantastic? I think they sound mediocre to good depending on the patch. But definitely limited in the variety you can produce.

gastric, I will look into recording some samples, I must admit, I have no clue where to post them on the net, I can't post samples on my website, but I'll see if I can find the time to do it.

I've just listened to your samples, they all sound very different from what I have.

If all fails I could always post my settings here. :)
