Boss GT-10B

Can anybody tell me about using an external footswitch with the GT-10B? Digitech FS-3X's were on clearance at Guitar Center and I picked up two---I knew they definitely worked with my Pitchfactor but wasn't sure about the GT-10B. I tried it out and it doesn't seem to work. I don't know a ton about the underlying electronics so forgive my ignorance. Is the GT-10B ONLY compatible with Boss FS5/FS6? Or are there any other options, like a Behringer knock-off or something?

I took a quick look at the FS-3X, and from what little information I could see, I'd have to say it wont work.

As far as options, I built my own for about $7 in parts and 20 minutes of my time. An enclosure, 2 momentary switches, a 1/4" TRS female jack, a couple pieces of wire and a 1/4" stereo cable are all it takes.

Here's a link to a page with a schematic if you're interested.

That's pretty cool, I would love to do that but it's been a looooooong time since I messed around with any electronics.

As I understand it, though, these would only work as "momentary" switches, not latching switches? The FS-6 does both, and the Boss can assign both types of functions as well.

Uhhmmmm... Sheesh... you're going to make me go back through the manual aren't you... :hmm:;)

Yes, they do only work as momentary switches but, I can't think of any way the GT-10b utilizes a latching switch.

I may not totally understand the difference between latching and non-latching. When you are setting the CTL1 and CTL2 pedals (or CTL3/4 when using an extension) you have the option of momentary vs. toggle. I guess these both can be accomplished by momentary switches, as long as it is set correctly on the GT-10B?

Oooooohhh, I see where you're going. Yes, momentary and toggle functions are both controlled by non latching switches. Sorry if I confused the terminology for you there.

Okay; that makes sense. What is a latching pedal for then?

So before I return it can someone explain to me why the Digitech FS3X doesn't work? It's a TRS cable, it seems like 2 of the three switches should function.

It might work on two buttons, why not try it first.

Here is the schematic of that pedal.

Important dpdate: I was programming the GT-10B wrong. I forgot to turn the "control" assignments "on." The Digitech switch DOES work. Switch 1-->CTL3, Switch 2-->CTL4, Switch 3-->CTL3+4.

Works with both momentary and toggle. Actually, that third switch opens up some very interesting options. If you have effects you want to sometimes be connected, sometimes not---there you go.

The primary caveat is I haven't fully tested it for tap tempo. However, I know this switch works with tap tempo for a Pitchfactor, so I don't see why it wouldn't.

Edit to add: just tested tap tempo. Works.

Well, of course it makes perfect sense... Now that *you've* done it and I look back at the schematic. ;) And yeah, it does add some neat possibilities.

Hmmmm... Just add a switch and a couple of diodes eh? Hmmmm... :D

Thanks for the update.

Also, I set CTL3 to momentary and and CTL4 to toggle, and by pressing switch 3 on the Digitech, you can do an interesting cycling through various combinations.

This is going to be fun. :bassist:

Hey folks forgive the ham handed insertion....however I have a question and guidance request.

I recently purchased a GT-10B, and am going to do some studio sessions in a few days.

Question:
Does anybody have the time to explain how I may be able to get a geddy lee-ish tone, or perhaps even a Squire-esq tone.

The fellas I will be working with are huge prog endorsing sound lovers.

Additional information:
I will not be bringing an amp...just the Boss. So I will interface the peddle board with the studio.

I will be playing a F/S Jazz active bass. I got a chance to listen to they're scratch demos and I am hearing the bass lines (key board) written...but sounds a lot like Geddy to me...post moving pictures.

Help please!

The GT-10B has a lot of sounds inside. Do you try any to see what is close to the sound you have In your head?

Indeed I did...close was the SVT 8-10 one...sounds good through speakers and all...but a just misses...also id like to create one that is closer on a user channel...thought perhaps some body with greater effects experience (especially on the Gt -10B) could show the way.

Thank you for responding though (thebogart)
Cheers !
