Boss GX-10

Hi Guys ,i bought the gx 10, 2 weeks ago, i have mess cabine m9 And Warwick streamer 5. I used to play with my gt10-b for a decade. Gt- 10 b have more Bass amp and more Bass effects, like Bass synth, enhencer, etc. I feel like i have more option with gt10b, Bass Tone from gx10 did not convince me. Also i play with 4 câble method, so all manufactured preset are so loud comparison with the send return preset i made, so i have to change Everly patch master Level, otherwise, its Will pop off my buffle. I Will try to working on it couple more dans, but i think i Will return it to the store. Look like it’s more a guitar thing. Any of you can share their opinion, and expérience with that product. ,
Question,
1- should i play direct mono output or use 4 câble method, pro and cons ?
2- any tips to make amp sim Sound good ( i. Like want its Sound like RAGe againt’s the Machine,
3- eq set up recomendation
4- does hx stomp is Sound better for Bass, and it is easier to make it Sound good?

Thanks.

Hey,

I can’t answer everything but I play mono out straight into the amp and enjoy it. But I do only use it for FX (I don’t use the amp sims). As far as the stomp goes, I would say purely on amp sims alone it sounds a bit better to my ear but anyone that knows what they’re doing can get either to sound decent. I play a lot of funk and just couldn’t get the envelope filter to behave on the stomp. I much prefer the touch wash on the GX. Drives are also better to my ear (out of the box) on the stomp but I don’t really use them aside from adding a tiny amount of dirt to my tone.

All this to say, I think you can wrangle either to get a good sound. They both have their pros and cons. I prefer the GX but I also like the stomp. One thing going for the stomp is there some much community stuff out there (YouTube vids/ patches) so it’s never too difficult to find the sound you’re looking for (especially with a band as big as Rage)

I’ll also say I never use stock patches. 9/10 they all sound rubbish to me and as you say, the levels are all over the place.

As far as community patch/info availability for the Stomp vs the GX-10, I'm thinking since the GX-100 has been around awhile I'd think there is/would be at least some amount of patches/info available for that as well but I haven't looked into it. Anyone have any input on that point?

So question - are patches for the GX-100 copy-able and transferable to the GX-10? I know with the Stomp/Helix family you can copy a patch from the Helix to your computer via the HX Edit program and then put it in the Stomp, or download something from the Net and stick it into the Stomp. I'd assume the same function is, or at least should be, available for the Boss stuff as well. Probably a dumb question but as I have no current contact with anything Boss related I'm completely ignorant of their abilities in that regard.

Yeah, you can do so using boss’ tone central (where folks can upload/ share patches). The bass section is severely lacking though.

So today I tried to replicate some of the more complex sounds from my GT-1000 in the GX-10.
This is some kind of bi-amping stuff like the Tech 21 Geddy und dUg pedals which both I own and recreated the sounds in my GT-1000.
Not exact clones, but sounds I can use in my bands and which work well there.

They both involve parallel signal paths with the X-Bass Compressor and EQ on the bass side as well as different amps and EQs on the treble side.
And the good news for me: With the same settings, both units sound the same.

I still like it :)

After more time spent with both units and more close comparing, I have to say there are differences in Sound between the GX-10 and the GT-1000.

The high end of the audio spectrum is sounding a bit different.
I guess this is due to the AD and DA conversion (24bit and 48kHz for the GX-10 vs 32bit and 96kHz for the GT-1000 AD converters) and/or the internal processor.

Nothing dramatical, but the high frequencies in the GT-1000 are just a bit more open sounding, especially noticeable with distorted sounds.
And nothing that would matter or even be audible in a live setting, I guess.

Just pulled the trigger on the GX-10. I've had a fairly complicated all-analogue setup recently and the last run of shows made all the tap-dancing just exhausting and panic-inducing if I forget to switch something on or off.

It should arrive tomorrow, and I'll spend the weekend tweaking it before rehearsal on Monday and Tuesday and a show on Friday.

My sound for the 3-piece band is pretty massive, with quite a few effects, and I want to replicate some sort of bi-amping type deal. Let's see how it goes!

I'm using the GX-10 now for over 2 months, and getting more happy, week by week. In the beginning the pedal effect options can be quite overwhelming, as there are many parameters per single effect. After some time you start to learn more which parameters to tweak, and which not. Tweaking is best done on the computer.

Delivery delayed by one working day due to 'mistake in sorting'

Got rehearsal on Monday and Tuesday, so I might have some time on Monday evening to integrate it into my setup, but tweaking patches will take a while (I have some very specific sounds)

And here it is! Mounted to my Pedaltrain. I also got the Bluetooth thing but haven't set it up yet.

Took a little while to get used to how it works, and I'm still trying to figure out how to get the most out of the FX loop feature, but on its own the sounds are pretty excellent and it's extremely well-built as you'd expect from Boss. If this thing had an XLR out it would be a 10/10, but alas it does not.

I really liked my Boss GT-1B and this is a definite step up in all ways.

Hi all!

Just wanted to say I got this multi-FX a few weeks ago. I had my eye on it for months, and I’ve had a lot of multi-FX (and analog pedals) from different brands. I must say, for my needs, this is the best multi-FX I’ve ever had. I just love the Boss ecosystem.

I started out with a Boss GT-1B, went through various brands, and now I’m back to Boss. As someone mentioned above, the GX-10 is what the GT-1B should have been.

Anyone still using this?
Got it around a year ago and still like it a lot. I've got some of its 'virtual' pedals I use dialed in the way that I like and it's easy to just toss it in the bag when going out to play. At home, I still have two dozen pedals on the floor or available next to the 410, but I keep this thing by the 115 or 210 so I can just grab and go. Even if I would normally just grab a compressor and amp, I'll grab this now 'cause it has a Boss compressor and you never know what else you might need...
