Anyone tried Elijah Craig?
I've only had the common versions of JD, Jim Beam, Makers Mark and Knob Creek.

Dollar for dollar this is the best deal out there. Very consistent, very smooth for a "low-end" price. I have converted many of my friends over to keeping Evan as the go-to bottle in the cupboard. Also should consider Ezra Brooks. Very approachable.
The Evan Williams Single Barrel is also very, very good. Has nice differences between bottles and years.
--The first time I had Evan Williams Single Barrel a friend gave it to me for my birthday, albeit about a month late (we live in different parts of the country). So he gives me the bottle and gives me the spiel about "hand bottled", "hand dated label" yadda, yadda.
So I take a look at the bottle and sure enough, 10 years prior, on my birth date, this batch was barreled. Then, 10 years after that, on my birth date, it was bottled. All pure coincidence. The liquor store clerk merely grabbed a bottle and scanned it. I was so stoked. Somehow it actually tasted better.
Not to be "that" guy.....but am I really the first to mention Jack Daniel's is not Bourbon
Gentleman Jack and Jim Beam mostly. Right now, I'm in Jim Beam mode. I'm playing around with a "Jim Drop". Double shot of Beam plus Sun Drop cola. Ice or not. Varying volume on the cola. It's all in the name of science.
However, Mrs. Unprofessional recently purchased some Wild Turkey for the Infamous Egg Nog and the remainder must not go to waste.
Maker's Mark is also good and I have been known to help a good friend drink his.

Must admit I'm bad for using Bourbon as a catch all for American Whiskeys, even when it is a regional term.

Even seems that that isn't quite right either!
-Made from a grain mixture that is at least 51% corn;
-Aged in new, charred-oak barrels;
-Distilled to no more than 160 (U.S.) proof (80% alcohol by volume);
-Entered into the barrel for aging at no more than 125 proof (62.5% alcohol by volume);
-And be bottled (like other whiskeys) at 80 proof or more (40% alcohol by volume).
Though surely Jack meets that? They just do a few extra things to sub-categorise themselves?

Yeah, JD is a bourbon as far as the letter of the law.
But to purists, anything made outside of KY is a whiskey. I like to joke around and have fun.
If it sips, it's fine by me!!!!
I mostly drink Makers Mark, but when I want to splurge I go for the Elijah Craig 18 year old stuff.
It's over $100.00 a bottle. I bet it's amazing, but I'll also bet that I'll never find out......
Evan Williams is the only cheap bourbon I'll drink. Not bad if you're drinking on a budget. Jim Beam is disgusting rot gut swill, IMO.
Maker's Mark, Bulleit, Woodford Reserve, Wild Turkey (all varieties, even the American Honey), and Fighting Cock all get the seal of approval from me.

Jack doesn't meet the bourbon standard by the fact it isn't made in Kentucky. Even if I somehow managed to concoct a Scotch that tastes like it came straight out of Speyside here in TX, you wouldn't call it Scotch, would you?
Jack is ok but extremely overrated, IMO. Gentlemen Jack is alright though.

That would be moonshine you're referring to. Tennessee/Kentucky make you call it white whiskey if you're making it legally for sale to the public.
Also, I like Bulliet or however its spelled. I got some as a gift last year. Crown, Makers Mark, and Knob Creek are my favorite. I like moonshine a lot too. Peach, Apple pie, or straight up white lightnin.
Anyone else like Bellows for cheap stuff? Most bars around here use it as there well whiskey, and I've drank enough of it that I actually don't mind it.
