BREAKING NEWS: A shift from Ampeg to Aguilar

Nah, not at all, JimmyM. As the song says, I love you just the way you are.

And I am not invested, emotionally or otherwise, in who plays what. But that really was my first thought when I saw the thread title. That truly WOULD be breaking news, after all.
Well it might be breaking news in my house ;)

OK, fair enough. I'm just mad that I have a cold and my right ear won't pop after my flight.

I used to love, own & play multiple Ampeg's. I play them every year at NAMM, in music stores, as back line, etc... When you A/B old ones & new ones, & I have, the sound is different & not one I like anymore. They aren't nearly as good as they once were. Guys like T.M. Stevens & Billy Sheehan, as well as many, many others stopped endorsing them because of this reason. If the new ones have the tone you like, go ahead & play them, I don't care, we all have different preferences of tone.

I hear zero difference in the heads, and only positive difference in the cabs, and I have a 69 SVT. I don't know about TM, but Billy left because he didn't like the former head idiot of LOUD (join the club) and because said former head idiot rushed a bunch of stuff to market that had problems. Anyway, endorsers...they come, they go. They lose Billy and get Stanley. They lose TM and get Roger Waters. I never played their stuff because of their endorsers anyway.

Since you're feeling this edgy maybe you should take a jab at fender too :meh:

Jellin, the original poster asked a question & I stated my opinion on it like everyone one else, how in the world is that edgy? Haha. Why is everyone always looking to pick a fight on forums. Everyone isn't going to like the same gear, tones, bands, etc.... We are all just trying to give opinions on the originally asked question.

Jimmy, that's fine if you don't hear a difference & still like them, but I & many others do & that's why we stopped playing them. I'm just giving the original poster my honest answer.

Not looking to pick a fight on the forums, but there is a difference between disliking a brand/having an opinion and just straight up bashing. The way you reworded the post makes a lot more sense and doesn't just look like gear bashing, at least to me. Different strokes for different folks

What set me off was you saying that new Ampeg sounds like ****. Being a player of mostly new Ampeg, you might as well have said to me, "You sound like ****." And I'm expected to just let that go? Nope, don't think so. You set off a bomb, and now you're surprised it blew up.
